Wan Chanzi (ワン・チャンジー Wang Chianjī) is a former member of the Fairy Tail Guild. Being a quiet person, he rarely speaks. In one incidence, he did not speak for more than one hour's time in one whole year.[1] After the re-establishment of Fairy Tail in X792, he no longer returned as a member of the Guild.[2]

Appearance[]

Wan Chanzi

Wan's full body, as shown in the Manga

Wan is a slim man of average height with a large face and a mildly long neck. He has very short, almost shaved black hair. A little arched mustache above his mouth, and some stubble on his chin. His eyes are always obscured by a simple pair of sunglasses with a large dark frame. Despite his slim appearance, Wan seems to possess quite muscular arms, when they're shown bare.

He is shown donning a flamboyant, distinctive outfit. He spots a dark, high-collared zipped sweatshirt which he keeps open, with light-colored lines extending down from the collar to the cuffs, and a draw on the left part of the chest, similar in appearance to a lower case “b”. Under it is a light shirt with a stylized, cute head of a doggy on its center, which is seen looking to the left, has its tongue sticking out and points one of its paws outwards. Wan's pants are also distinctive in appearance, sporting the draw of a piano keyboard going down vertically along the right leg, starting from below the right front pocket of the pants, which, like the other, has a light-colored edge, and going down below the knee, almost reaching down to the ankle. The pants' hem are dark in color, and covered in light writings placed diagonally, something which partially hides them: one of the words, looking at both legs, seems to be “WILD”, while the one below it is seemingly unreadable, with only the letters “BOBB” visible; however, due to the real figure behind the character, such word is likely “BOBBY”. The pants are held up by a belt, mostly covered by Wan's shirt, with its ending part left hanging over the pants, and which is divided horizontally in three, differently colored stripes, and seems to possess a square buckle with rounded edges. Living up to the rest of his attire, Wan's shoes are also quite characteristic, being dark in the lower parts, around the soles, and sporting a seemingly protective plating composed of different pieces above them. Around Wan's neck is a large necklace seemingly made of many metal disks linked together.

During the Battle of Fairy Tail arc, Wan was instead shown donning a simple A-shirt,[3] and, in the Oración Seis arc, he sported a jacket with a fur-lined collar over a shirt decorated by a slightly different doggy, with bead-like black eyes and a darker spot on the right part of its head and the corresponding eye.[4]

Wan welcoming Wendy into the guild

Wan, along with the rest of the guild, is seen happily welcoming Wendy and Carla.[17] He is then seen at Wendy and Carla's Welcome Party.[18] He is sucked through the Anima and turned into Lacrima along with the rest of the guild and the town of Magnolia.[19][20] However, they are freed thanks to Mystogan, who returns everyone back to Earth Land (excluding Gray, Natsu, Lucy, Wendy, Erza, Gajeel, Carla, and Happy), through the Reverse Anima Process, and so he, like all the rest of the guild and Magnolia is unaware of the events of Edolas.[21]

The King of Fiore gathers all of the Mages from all present Guilds to inform them of the impending disaster and what the Kingdom plans to do to combat against the calamity. The King continues on, requesting for their assistance against the remaining Dragons who survive from the Eclipse Plan, to which Wan and the rest of the Mages all agree in unison.[24]

Magic and Abilities[]

Iron Dog (アイアンドッグ Aian Doggu): Wan possesses a type of Transformation Magic named Iron Dog. With his Magic, he fights using his hand-to-hand combat skills, which are enhanced by transforming his right arm into an Iron Dog. The Iron Dog itself can smell, bite, and eat things. [1]

Hand-to-Hand Combatant: Wan has shown skill in unarmed combat, assaulting Joey Fullborn with a punch to the face that was enhanced by his Iron Dog.[3]

Trivia[]

  • Because of his love for Movie Lacrima, just about all of his reward from requests goes to buying more of it.[1]
  • His appearance is based off Hiro Mashima's assistant, Bobby Osawa. Even the shirt that Wan wears is based off what Osawa usually wears.[1]
