Hello hoes of Fairy Tail Wiki. I unfortunately have to start this month with no TMITM as I am crazy busy at work and I don't have the time to write a good article. I'll be back next month.
Ultra: Yeah...you see, we tried to find a new person to write this article...
The Wiki: But you failed?! ಠ~ಠ
Ultra: Yeah, pretty much. So, I'm back to review the anime.
Anon: Boo!
Ultra: Wrong place, anon. Bato is over there. *points off in the distance*
*anon leaves*
Ultra: But yeah, I'm writing this article again this month. So sit back and get ready to laugh!
Bit of a backstory, I have read Fairy Tail Zerø so I pretty much know how the story goes. I did like it back when I was reading it so I was pretty interested in how an anime adaption would be handled.
This one actually begins with Natsu and the useless blue cat wandering around the country aimlessly, reminiscing over the sights they see and the memories they bring up. Deciding to not be aimless though, they decide to go to Tenrou Island and so they get a boat which apparently steers itself to their destination. Checking some stuff out, they find an old house and soon locate Mavis' grave.
So, Mavis is evidently gonna be the narrator here and we see her backstory. Her parents died and owed money to their guild, Red Lizard, who accepted Mavis as child labor in order to pay it off. Due to something her parents told her about fairies never visiting those who cry, she decides never to cry no matter how badly this entire guild full of douchebags treats her. Zeeself, the guild master, is a special ass in particular seeing as how her physically abuses her and mistreats her in other ways. His daughter Zera doesn't show herself to be any better either.
Mavis does have a lot of ambitions though, despite her limitations. The anime added some filler about her delivering lunch to Zera at school and through this we see her interest in learning and in the world around her. It's really quite nicely done and develops her character a lot, as well as showing us the reasoning behind a lot of her behavior in the main series.
The guild war against Blue Skull, whose who ended up killing the members of Red Lizard, is not particularly bloody. Mavis actually watches Zeeself get his karma as he's killed by some Blue Skull member, his last words being his daughter's name. Said daughter is rescued by Mavis and the two flee into the forest cause nobody bothered to go there.
Flash forward, we see Precht, Warrod and Yuri arrive in a small boat. Treasure hunters determined to make their fortune on an island long-forgotten.
Verdict: 7 / 10
A well-handled episode. Nothing particularly outstanding about it but nothing to detract either. As the first episode in this arc, it is an overall good start.
Before getting to the meat of this episode, we have a bunch of content with Mavis and Zera, now at the age of 13, trying to clean the library of the island which belonged to the guild. Guess that Blue Skull had too much respect for books to burn it down. Of course, Mavis loves books so much, she keeps getting distracted while cleaning. I like this filler- Mavis' thirst for knowledge is a very interesting aspect to her character.
As it turns out, the guys are searching for treasure and Yuri makes his way to the library, where he meets Mavis as the formerly confident, controlling and talkative Zera hides from him as she "hasn't talked to another human in 7 years", which makes Mavis comically upset. As Mavis meets Yuri, the two talk and engage in a little banter before Yuri states his objective. To convince Mavis to show him where it is, he decides on a game where you guess things about the opponent and aren't allowed to lie. After a test run, Mavis manages to win the real game as she outwits Yuri with some tactics he hadn't encountered previously or even expected.
Though Warrod and Precht show up just as the game ends, having found the Tenrou Jade, that which they were searching for, making the game comically pointless. However, the Tenrou Jade was stolen by Blue Skull so Mavis gets the gang to agree to take her away in their ship so she can help them with her skills, and also so she can see the outside world. Didn't they arrive in a rowboat, or did I miss something? With her and Zera all packed up, and one awkward first meeting later, the gang sets sail.
So, this was overall a good episode. Seeing tactics like Mavis' during her game with Yuri is what I love seeing- not everything need be resolved by fisticuffs (though you ought to make said fisticuffs good if you do have them). I admit, I didn't fully get the "teenager" point way back when I first read the manga, but then I realized it was because Yuri said it, even if it wasn't part of his question to Mavis. Making me actually think like that for once? Good job, Mashima.
Verdict: 7.5/ 10
Episode 268 is primarily filler. The early stuff we see is Mavis trying to help Yuri with his sails, visiting Warrod below the ship's deck and checking out his hunting gun but avoiding Precht because he's scary-looking. I instantly like this guy, even knowing what he'll become.
So, Mavis avoids being the stereotypical kid around grown-ups who tries to help but ends up fucking things up even more. This being because she actually knows what's what. As the ship stalls due to a lack of wind, Mavis spots a bunch of dolphins swimming by the side of the ship and dons her swimsuit to join them, avoiding Zera's question about where she got it. Evidently, she can hold her breath for a really long time, as the friendly wild dolphins take her underwater, where she spots ruins of some sort.
Having overheard Warrod and Yuri discuss their low funds, Mavis opts to visit the ruins alone and find some treasure to give them. After taking some diving equipment, she leaves without telling anyone (other than Zera, for obvious reasons).
She does look around the underwater ruins for a while until she get attacked by a very aggressive fish when surprisingly, Warrod and Yuri come to rescue her after having received no leads and working together, they all solve a riddle to get them to safety. One that literally blows them away and out of the ruins.
Though, the got some jewels apparently when nobody was focusing on them, so that's some cash they can use.
Overall, not a terrible filler, but not exactly what I'd call well-written.
Verdict: 5.5 / 10
Finally, we have "Dances with Blades". The final episode of this month has the gang disembark from their ship to roam around Hargeon. Mavis continues to be herself as she explores the small port town and sees a lot which she'd never gotten the chance to see while living on the island. Since she's never spent time with him though, and there is a mission on hand, she goes off with Precht to get info on Blue Skull from the people of the town.
It's quite a lot of filler from here on out with the two walking around and getting into weird situations. I believe everyone already knows about that skirt-flipping scene. But what I do like about this filler is that it shows how very perceptive Precht is. He's a reserved individual but he has a great eye for detail and he does in fact care for other people. This is well-demonstrated by the fact that although he's not too thrilled about having Mavis tag along, he doesn't actually show any open contempt and thus views her as more of a tag-along rather than a hindrance.
Returning to the adapted part, a verbal slip-up from a bartender that Mavis points out, we find out that he's an underling of Blue Skull. Precht, however, has no problem dispatching those around him when they attack, since he dances freely with small blades. I'd kinda like to see him use a katana, tbh. But anyways, the guy tries to stop Precht and Mavis with a magic circle, but Mavis puts her brain to use and realizes that said magic circle was ineffective, allowing her to threaten him with very-convincing illusion magic and get the information she wanted.
Overall, this was quite a good episode. Mavis further shows herself to be a well-done character and at this point, may be the only character in Fairy Tail that I can actually say is well-done. A few art derps aside, the most important scenes in this episode are fantastic, most specifically the wolf illusion that Mavis brings forth and Precht's fight scenes.
Verdict: 7.5/ 10
Overall Score for This Month in the Anime: 7/10
Verdict: A solid, well-handled set of episodes to get this arc rolling.
How you guys enjoyed this edition of This Month in the Anime. Hopefully, we'll have a new writer for this article next month.
Hello, everyone! Last month I featured Gildarts and I created a poll to ask you guys' opinion on who I chose to portray him (Chris Hemsworth). I posted the results of that poll below. 80.2% of you thought it was a good choice. 9.9% of you thought it was okay. And 9.9% of you thought it was bad. My choice for Gildarts got AWESOME reception! Let's hope my choice for Yukino gets even better reception! :D To the 9.9% of you who didn't like my incredible choice... you can go fuck yourself. ಠ_ಠ

Jennifer Lawrence
I think Jennifer Lawrence is a great fit for Yukino. Aside from looking similar to one another, Jennifer Lawrence is a phenomenal actress who could pull off virtually any role she's give. So I have no doubt she could pull off Yukino who, let's be honest, isn't a great big well of personality and depth. So, what do you guys think? Is she a good match for Yukino? Do you know an actor who'd fit better? If so tell me in the comments! ^__^ And if you don't think Jennifer is a good choice, I'd really like to know why. And even if you do think she's a good choice, I'd like to know why in the comments. So comment!
Hello everyone and welcome to the Fairy Playbook. With Valentine's day coming up next month, I wanted to do something special and since Fairy Tail is the greatest piece of romance fiction ever written, I figured I would examine the many relationships of Fairy Tail and teach you all how you can get dates for Valentine's day.
The Zervis
Chance of Success: 100%
Prep time: ~11 years
Requirements: A curse that controls life and death
So you want to get a date for V day huh? Then nothing works quite like the Zervis. Now, the prep for this is a little tricky as you are going to need to contract some kind of curse that makes you kill people you love, but don't worry, what could go wrong?! Once you identify your target, ambush them with their friends and let them see you naked "by chance". Train your target how to defend themselves and send them on their way. Now you are in their head. They will be back, trust me, because you just happened to set them on their way to get the same curse you have! So about 10 years later, you need to run into your target again. Explain to them that the reason they havent grown older is because you two are both afflicted with that nasty little curse. They will run off, but trust me, we aren't done yet. A year later you just need to run into your target again and take advantage of their depression. Whisper sweet nothings into their ear and say you love them and pucker up because you are getting one hell of a kiss. Unfortunately, that is the only kiss you are getting because your kiss may have sort of kind of killed them. BUT THATS OKAY, because who just got kissed? You did!
Huh? Whats that? You don't want to kill your lover just for a kiss? Well fine!
The Jerza
Chance of Success: 90%
Prep time: 8 years
Requirements: A magical tower far away from home
Ah the Jerza, a classic sure to win you the heart of the one you desire. First thing first, find someone you wish to make yours. Now get yourselves captured as slaves and taken to a far off island. Don't worry, you may have to tough it out for a while but it will be worth it in the end. Now here is where the magic starts. Get your target to be falsely accused of starting a revolt and then start your own revolt to free them when they get taken in. Once you do this, go ahead and get yourself captured after you free your target. This will inspire them to come for you. But here is the kicker, rather than being all grateful when they come for you, you need to be an evil bastard and decide to become the leader of the island to carry on the work of the slavers. Offer your target the chance to leave and when they do, stalk them for years by pretending to be your twin brother. After about 8 years, lead them back to the island to confront you and pretty much kill you. Sometime later, you just need to reappear and say you lost your memories and the sparks will begin to fly. From here on out, everything you do will only attract your target more. Take a deep breath and relax because you my friend just scored!
But whats that you say? You don't want to wait 8 years to get a date? Don't worry, I have you covered
The Gruvia
Chance of Success: 70%
Prep time: 413 days give or take
Requirements: Absolutely nothing
This is an easy one for you folks. Have your target in sight? All you have to do is become obsessed with them. How obsessed? Make cakes with their faces on it, say their name like you are having an orgasm, be everywhere they are. If someone speaks to your target, they are your new love rival. Annihilate them! Eventually though, things will pan out to be a normal loving relationship where though your target may not say that they love you, they will definitely begin to show that they care and maybe one day, you will get a straight answer from them.
Wait a second, that became kind of normal....SCREW IT. That one is terrible, forget about it. I got the perfect one for you.
The Gajeevy
Chance of Success: 60%
Prep time: A few months
Requirements: a big ass tree
You ready for this one? All you have to do once you find your target is to beat them up. Beat them and anyone they are with to a bloody pulp and further humiliate them by tying them to that big ass tree. Now a little later, let her take revenge and do the same to you and in a few months, you two will be the new it couple around town. Its really that simple.
Huh? Battery is illegal? You respect the opposite gender and would never beat them up? Why can't you ever just be happy with one of these? But fine, try this one.
The Rowen
Chance of Success: 50%
Prep time: None
Requirements: Be the only person the same age as your target
This one should be simple enough for you. Just be the same age as your fucking target. Not hard right? That's all you have to do. Then everyone around you will just presume you two are dating since you are the only ones in your age group. Seize the opportunity to ask your target out and bam, you have a date.
Now what could you possibly complain about? There is someone else the same age as you? Well fuck it, I have one last play for you.
The Miraxus
Chance of Success: 30%
Prep time: a few minutes
Requirements: None
This is the absolute easiest play there is. All you have to do, and you may want to brace yourself for this cause it may be too much for you, is to one time show concern for your target. Done, thats it. That is all you have to do. Much like the Rowen, your friends and everyone around you two will begin to think you two are so cute together that you must be dating. Take that opportunity to ask them out and you can kiss you v card goodbye on v day. Bonus points if you can get someone to draw a picture of you two dancing together. You don't actually need to dance together, you just need someone to draw it so that everyone goes crazy about it.
Now thats it. Get out there tiger, you have studied in the true ways of romance by Hiro Mashima. You are now an unstoppable love machine.
Welcome back to Battle Arena. Last month, Rufus and Angel duked it out with their flairs for the dramatic, Rufus won with a score of 6-4.

Votes for Jellal Fernandes
Now that's a tough one. Both of them are Wizard Saint level and a cut above Jura, and their Magic is powerhouse in both cases. However, I think Jellal would have a slight advantage in the fight for 3 reasons: More versatile Magic instead of just lightning, more experience as he's older, and Sema, which was devastating enough to annihilate OS.
Yeah, I don't see any way in which Laxus wins this one. Laxus' thing is his raw power. He is extremely powerful, but he lacks any kind of versatility. He is fast but Jellal is just as fast. Jellal knows a butt tons of different magics ranging from small fire spells to huge things such as sema. Despite half the fanbase thinking Laxus is the most powerful character ever created in any manga ever, he isn't and Jellal would beat him here.
Even though both are very powerful I think Jellal would win this simply because of his versatility with various kinds of Magics and spells while Laxus only has lightning.
Laxus is strong and everything, but I don't think he's on Jellal's level yet. Laxus has a serious versatility issue. He literally can only use Lightning related Magic, and he doesn't even use it in a creative way. It's mainly just attacking his opponents like a brute until they stop moving, which I don't think would work on Jellal because in addition to Jellal's magical capabilities, which are very versatile, Jellal has proven himself to be very intelligent and cunning. Versatility, strength, and intellect >>>> Brute force
Votes for Laxus Dreyar
I'm not going to get into too much detail, since i'm sure we all know these two characters well, along with their track records of wins and losses. I feel Laxus will receive the upper-hand here due to his tenacity, and that's something I see little of in Jellal. Jellal has only shown it recently against the OS and even then, it was to repent for his sins. Laxus comes from a powerful lineage, and has determination and the heart to defeat Jellal by a close margin.

Like our wiki, race, sexuality and the like turns into comedy with Russell Peters. How do you think one should approach those topics for the sake of humor?
A: I think there isn't any kind of approach that would be "correct" in this kind of situation, simply because every person reacts differently to offensive things. Some may find a joke about black or gay people funny, others may punch you in the face for it. Personally, when I was in the US, I was often the butt of "greek guy" jokes, but I knew others (usually) meant well, so I just laughed along. Bottom line: they're just jokes. They're not meant to be taken seriously by definition.
As someone who's also Indian but born in Canada, how do you feel about Russell Peters?
A: When I first heard him on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno back in 2008, I was shocked. It sounded to me like this guy had already lived a good portion of my life. I never thought someone whom I'd never met and was unlikely to ever meet could have had such similar experiences. Ever since then, I've tried to watch some of his videos whenever possible. His work always gives me something to laugh at, even if it's not quite something I related to personally. He works because he's so engaging. Sadly, I missed the chance to see him when he was performing in my city. Maybe one day though.
Did you enjoy this guy's routine? If so, will you be looking up any more of his videos?
A: Yes, I did and he seems very funny. However, I doubt I'll look up more of him. I have a very weird sense of humor, and very few comedians are able to truly make me laugh. In fact, I can only think of maybe three comedians off the top of my head who's stand up I can actually stand (pun very much intended) watching. :D
I really just have no words for this piece. To say that this piece is amazing would be the understatement of the year. Heya and Happy New Year to yall~ time for another RAVEN'S COVEN! This month it is a special issue, because the character analysed is one of the best written characters in Fairy Tail.
That character, of course, is none other FROSCH.
DESIGN
It's not that I don't appreciate the half(or full) naked women thrown left and right in this manga, because I do. But it's easy being appreciated for your beauty if you are sexualised so often. Frosch, on the other hand, is a special kind of beauty. It doesn't need to show any skin, apart from its face, to be appreciated for who it is.
Mashima rightfully chose the color green for this character. This does not come as a surprise, as green is the color of creativeness, balance, harmony, prosperity and brilliance, all of which are some of Fro's qualities.
Then there is the magestic pink attire that Frosch chose, distinquishing itself from the other Male exceeds, who walk around mostly naked, or with little clothes. This goes to show how insignificant they all are compared to it. Indeed, it is another stylistic choice masterfully picked, since pink signifies love, hope and compassion, and really, who is more loveable than Frosch? That's right, no one.
Don't take it from me, though. Look at this:
Gray is obviously gay for Fro. And if Fro is female, then Lucy, Erza and Juvia are gay for Fro. Who can blame them, though? Frosch is beautiful, and it would be the obvious choice for most people in real life as well.
Frosch is a really complex character and it is hard to get, unsurprisingly. So few people reading Fairy Tail seem to understand it, but this is a testament to Mashima's writing skills. Frosch is a master manipulator, that much is canon. Its constant smile on its face can mean many things, and it always has the reader guessing what it is up to this time. Using affection and "cuteness" as a weapon, Fro has been behind almost every scheme since the beginning of the manga, but only appearing halfway through. Frosch has been harnessing Rogue's darkness, with his shadow emerging while he is fighting off Gajeel, but disappearing when Frosch comes close to him, to tell him that he did okay. Do you think this was a coincidence? I seriously doubt that.
Not to mention how Fro faked its own death to turn its companion batshit insane and cause the dragoncalypse and more or less the end of the world. What is its master plan exactly? Nobody knows.
That's not to say Frosch is an one-note villain though. It is actually more of an antihero, or, at times, hero even. It clearly cares for Rogue in its own, twisted way, despite being his abuser at the same time. You can see by the look in its eyes that it regrets using Rogue like that, as it grew to care for him. Same for Lector, Minerva, Jellal, Zeref, Acnologia, Mard Geer and all the other people Fro has ever interacted with. It's been pushing for Minerva's redemption, which might indicate that it either cares for her, or is still not done with her and she still has some use to it left.
All in all, it's a masterfully written character and one of those I appreciate the most in this manga. Fairy Tail would be very different without it.
10/10 Excellent
ABILITIES
I don't want to sound like a fanboy, but Frosch is one of the most powerful entities in the FT-verse, challenging the likes of Mard Geer, Zeref and Acnologia. What's so scary about it is that it hasn't even had to rely on force yet, with only influencing people with the power of its mind and feelings. Then again perhaps that its biggest strength. No matter what, though, it is clearly a force to be reckoned with, and I think that in the end all the characters, good and bad alike, will have to join forces in order to face the final threat that is Frosch once and for all.
10/10 Powerful and unique
SIGNIFICANCE TO PLOT/ROLE IN THE MANGA
As I mentioned above, Frosch has manipulated the lot of the most important events of the manga to date. This has him be right up there in significance along with Natsu, Zeref and Acnologia, perhaps even higher. Fingers crossed for that until we learn its real motives, though!
10/10 The importantest of all
All in all, it should come to no surprise that Frosch as a character scores a whopping 10/10!!! There is not even any competition involved, and I say that without an ounce of fanboyism. I wish the other characters reach his level, but it is just wishful thinking at this point. I'll keep hoping though!
Normally those pitiful mortals are not to be allowed to speak of Frosch, but it has shown great magnanimity in allowing them to voice their opinions about it in 3 words. Here are the responses as recorded:
FUCKING ADORABLE, HNNNNNGH
This is absolutely correct.
Cute. Beyond. WORDS!
You, too, shall be spared from Fro's wrath :)
Not that interesting
I can't say the same for this one though.
Extremely pointless character
...and noone ever heard of God ever again. His fate remains unknown.
