So I was planning on getting up early to get this out as everyone always beats me to publishing their blogs.... and then I sleep for 3 hours past the time I wanted to get up. So hooray, publishing at my normal time :/
First off, dat cover . This chapter was all about Ultear...naked. Well, she was only naked every other page or something like that. But the first couple of pages it was great to see everyone dying. But then Mashima has to go and ruin everything with Ultear. Queue Ultear's naked back in a flashback as she remembers Gray, She then pulls out the magic we all knew she was going to use and reverses time, though seriously? One minute? Really Mashima? Really? At least give her five minutes. So now Ultear is dead but everyone is saved and can now counterattack thanks to having seen one minute into the future.
But let's not pretend like Ultear is actually dead. This is Mashima after all. She is probably close to dead and then someone is going to come over there and heal her. And frankly, I think I would prefer the future where Gray, Macao and Baccus all died rather than Ultear. I honestly don't have too much to say here because the chapter went pretty much like everyone expected. No one thought Gray was actually going to stay dead (well maybe some crazy people who don't read a lot of manga) and it seems like now we are going to start seeing some dragons defeated, so hooray.
So this chapter was... something. This chapter needed to do one thing and one thing only, explain how the spirit of a Quincy could do everything that he did (wielding a Zanpakuto, being drawn out by a device meant to draw the zanpakuto spirit out into the real world etc.) but it completely failed at that. Other than that it wasn't terrible I suppose. The chapter really focused on that love that the even younger Yhwach (yeah, still don't know what is up there) expressed towards Ichigo during FGT training. All the Yhwach spirit has wanted is to protect Ichigo and never wanted him to be a Shinigami but when he did, he did what he could to protect him I suppose. There are more inconsistencies in this one but I suppose there are going to be a bunch from now on. So now the Yhwach spirit is relinquishing his control and we are going to see the true Zangetsu I guess. It's great that Ichigo is getting yet another power up and everything, but what Kubo needs to do is to spend a few chapters ironing out this massive mess he created. If he doesn't want Bleach's rankings to keep dropping, he needs to explain a lot of things so the story starts making sense again. The Isshin flashback's were a great start aside from the retcon that took place there. Now it's time to explain the Yhwach spirit, not time to make Ichigo go through another power up.
Fairy Tail wins it again this week. Bleach had one job this week and it failed to complete it. In the meantime, Fairy Tail is finally darkening up a little which was one of the things I loved so much about Rave. Mashima does dark well and its nice to finally see some of it in Fairy Tail. Kubo is too into powering Ichigo up and thats always been his problem. He doesn't plan and now its really biting him in the ass. Its clear that the only reason Zangetsu is suddenly Yhwach is because Kubo needed a reason to give Ichigo another power boost.
So thats all for this week. As always, comments are very welcome, so comment away.
