Woohoo chapter day. But since Gray is in the title, I had a feeling it would be boring. Also, Bleach is back so its back in my review.
Why the hell is Gray so boring? Seriously, anytime he is on screen, I have the sudden urge to check my other tabs. So we have Gray vs. Doriate and what a shock, Doriate turns everyone into kids again, this time including Minerva, the treasure hunters and everyone else. Just when I thought we were done with that stupid magic, it happens again :/ So everyone panics that they are kids and what not and then Gray tries to act all tough and say he can beat Doriate. God I hate Gray. So Gray somehow uses the ice thats covering the village to defeat Doriate and once again, they all turn back to normal (really Mashima? What was the point of turning the entire village to kids if you were just going to make them all adults again in a few pages...) Doriate is defeated and then the giant eyeball monster comes and swallows him up after Doriate warns them they opened the gates of Hell and bla bla bla Gray is still on screen so I dont care. So we have the new abridged team all set up and I was thinking that I may do the chapter for this week but nope, this chapter was so boring that I don't have any jokes for it. Anyway, thats all for Fairy Tail this week
Bleach is back from its super long hiatus and so how does it stack up? Well, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't all that great either. Right away, we can cross another item off the list of things Kubo said would happen but never did. In January, Kubo did a series of interviews where he revealed his plans for this final arc. One of those plans he gave out was that the Vandenreich base would be "underneath somewhere we know" I think everyone knew that would be Seireitei but nope, Kubo goes and goes back on his word in this chapter. The Vandenreich base isn't underneath anything, its parallel to Seireitei, residing in the shadows. Whatever. So the Gotei 13 is brought into the base and told all about how they set this up and then Mayuri comes and steals the show with another ridiculous costume. Just when I was getting used to African headdress Mayuri, he changes it up. My biggest problem in this chapter is the lack of explanation. Kubo says he is wrapping things up now and I don't expect Bleach to last past January, so why the hell don't we have any kind of motivation for the Vandenreich? I mean, I get they want revenge against Seireitei and all that, but they can get that without destroying the entire world so why are they trying to do that? Why can't Yhwach fight outside of the Vandenreich palace for extended time? Come on Kubo, at least explain something. This chapter wasn't bad, it just didn't do a lot of what it needed to do.
Bleach takes it this week barely. Fairy Tail was just boring as hell and I don't give a fuck about Gray. Bleach at least is kind of building to something hopefully, but I still feel Kubo has given up on the series. While I am not at all interested in the Sun Village arc, I am interested in the Vandenreich and their final showdown. Mashima needs to step up his game a bit because with as bad as Bleach has been lately, he doesn't have much of an excuse for why he is turning out chapters more boring than Bleach.
Thats all for this week. As always, comments are very welcome, so comment away.
