Lightning Flame Drive[]

What do you guys think about naming this one Lightning Flame Drive? In chapter 294 we can see Twin Dragons "drive's". In both cases it was a form similar to Dragon Force (but weaker). I know this is just a speculation that LFDM is the same but word "mode" is made up by us and "drive" was actualy used in manga. geohound Geogmr talk 16:55, August 6, 2012 (UTC)

It's speculation and renaming it to drive would give people the impression that it's the same thing when we don't know if it is.   Rai  Talk     17:04,8/6/2012

Not to mention that Natsu actually called it LFDM when he activated it against Max in chapter 259. (Shadoguardian (talk) 18:01, August 6, 2012 (UTC))

It depends on the translation. geohound Geogmr talk 14:44, August 7, 2012 (UTC)

Will be renamed Lightning Fire Dragon Mode.

Hey-o folks, I'm here today on this wonderful start of the Yuletide season to open up a rename discussion. Pretty straightforward, really. I would like to rename this to Lightning Fire Dragon Mode as opposed to keeping it as Lightning Flame. Though Lightning Flame has become the popular translation, and it's been named as such for a good near four years now, let's take a look at what we have: Fire Dragon Slayer Magic (uses kanji for en/honō, dictating strongly burning flames, but can also be translated to just plain fire depending on context, sorta), Fire Dragons, Fire Dragon King's _______, Fire Dragon King Mode. All of these use the kanji for en/honō, but because Fire Dragon Slayer Magic is the root, it's all translated as fire. I think it would be extremely consistent of us, and more correct considering the base two magics are Lightning and Fire Dragon Slaying Magic, to give this thing a good ol' rename. I don't like that it says Flame when Natsu's magic isn't Flame Dragon Slayer Magic, and none of his accompanying powers, or titles of those close to him are translated properly as such either. I think this is one of those times where we should take off the nostalgia goggles, put on our factual ones, take a good peak and go, "Oh shit Wrath, you're right! Totally rename this for consistency!" And by the way, Kodansha has my back on this, too. They may not ever have a way to consistently translate Laxus' magic (they vary between Thunder and Lightning DSM), but the mode is always translate by them as being _______-Fire Dragon Mode, obviously with us omitting the hyphen (one of the more recent translations had it as Lightning-Fire, however). Discuss!

tl;dr :D but I Support Support - Miskos3 Message 13:27, December 1, 2015 (UTC)

Honestly flame sounds cool but I'll support for consistency Support Support - NcduruRavens wallpaper (2) 14:17, December 1, 2015 (UTC)

Basically a combination of what Misk and Nc said. So sure, I Support Support - renaming the article. Onfire.gif Wonder Talk 15:25,12/1/2015

Neutral Neutral - Iunno, flame, blaze, etc. are all just fire. Mashima himself doesn't seem to sweat the details and uses hono, ka and en, so don't see why we can't vary our own names as a nod to this. --Sane Lunatic (talk) 15:32, December 1, 2015 (UTC)

I Oppose Vehemently Oppose - this for the exact reasons that Sane has stated. It doesn't hurt anyone to have the different versions of fire, everyone knows that flame, fire, blaze are pretty much the same thing, so why create the hassle and aggravation of having to go through however many hundreds of pages to change a single word? It makes no sense to me. Leave it as it is, save a whole load of heartache. Derax PaganiSend me a message 15:51, December 1, 2015 (UTC)

Actually thinking about it I really am Neutral Neutral - on this cause it really doesn't matter to me. Really a small detail foreal foreals... I know the anime is not a good source but they've been using flame forever and like sane said I don't think Hiro trips about it either so yeah I'll stay neutral NcduruRavens wallpaper (2) 16:04, December 1, 2015 (UTC)

They're all using flame because we have been using flame. I should have just renamed it for consistency without a discussion since it doesn't matter how many times we "vary" it out, but I figure I'd just do it the diplomatic way. The fact of the matter is that it's an ability named after Natsu's own magic. Ka is fire. Hono is fire. En is fire. Translations varying is incorrect. Natsu has one name for his magic, which is Fire Dragon Slayer Magic. So lets just rename Igneel to King of Blaze Dragons then? Let's have a bunch of different ways to say the same thing instead of sticking to one single, consistent thing? What could possibly be logical about that? Honestly, use your brains. It's called a bot. It takes 5 minutes and I don't touch have to actually touch a single thing. Fairy Bot exists for just such a purpose, smh. It's not about what is easy when it comes to managing a wiki. It's about what is right.

Support Support - Well, the small things always mattered to me. HamodyTartaros' NecromancerAsgail 21:12, December 1, 2015 (UTC)

The diplomatic way is the only way on this site. As far as this change goes, however, it doesn't really matter one way or the other. The kanji used vary, the english translation of those kanji vary, and while we do use Fire for his Magic, it's not really any sort of glaring issue to use Flame here. On that same token though, there's no issue with using Lightning Fire Dragon Mode either. So I'm... neutral. :P Iam...    JakuhōRaikōben01:12,12/2/2015

Support Support - for consistency, this is a wiki after all. LightningGeistRead about Laxus? 02:45, December 2, 2015 (UTC)

Support Support - I'm fine with it as long as you leave Black Flame Dragon Mode alone. -- The Talk Goblin 09:46, December 2, 2015 (UTC)

? Why would this change not apply to it? Miskos3 Message 11:49, December 2, 2015 (UTC)
Wrath didn't include BFDM in the rename discussion. -- The Talk Goblin 12:09, December 2, 2015 (UTC)
It would automatically include that, since it was used by Natsu and is pretty much in the same format name-wise as the others.Capricorn in ECS arc (no bg)Animaltamer7Capricorn12:36, December 2, 2015 (UTC)
