Finally aboard a train bound for Magnolia, Gray meets a young Mage named Pause Lightless. The two then help a young King Mole held captive aboard the train reunite with its parents. They are then approached by the thief Gray managed to capture in Foss, who states that he will also travel with them as he wants to avenge his humiliation in Foss.
Travelling to Magnolia by train, Gray encounters a young boy named Pause Lightless, who is also headed to Magnolia. He soon removes a huge tome from his satchel and begins to read. Suddenly, some hooligans start to create a ruckus and harass female passengers. Gray decides to teach them a lesson, but is beaten to it by Pause. The young boy reveals himself to be a Mage and uses his Magic to punish the offenders, but soon goes berserk and begins to destroy the entire compartment. His madness is finally halted by Gray, who drops a large chunk of ice on his head, knocking out Pause. When he regains consciousness, he requests Gray to take care of him, then gazes at the destruction he has caused, having obliterated almost everything but the floor of the car.
The two kids notice a trail of dirt moving alongside the train. Meanwhile, some members of the Poaching Guild Woodcutting in the Dark are relaxing in the caboose, happy to have got their hands on a young King Mole. Suddenly, their carriage begins to shake violently. Simultaneously, Gray and Pause are also heading towards the caboose, shaken at having seen the huge Moles heading there. They enter the car to witness the moles towering over the Poaching Guild. Looking at them, Pause immediately recognizes the beasts to be King Moles and understands the situation, explaining it to Gray. The two boys immediately decide to help the parent King Moles reclaim their child and begin to battle the Woodcutting in the Dark members. The clash is entirely one-sided as the Poaching Guild is flattened and the family of King Moles reunites, then immediately exits the train.
Pause informs Gray that King Moles have an extremely strong attachment to their offspring, and that he is happy to have been of help to one such family. When Gray inquires whether Pause himself is alone, the young boy cheerfully replies that he is never lonely as he will always meet new people whilst on a journey. At that moment, their conversation is interrupted by the thief whom Gray managed to bust in Foss. The man claims to have been humiliated by Gray and swears revenge on him, vowing to follow him until his task is accomplished. Gray tries to get Pause to speak up against travelling with the thief, but is flabbergasted to see his two new companions actually getting acquainted. Thus, the trio heads on to Magnolia.
