Happy in Boots is an omake of Fairy Tail by Hiro Mashima.

A short story of a talking cat, Happy and his plans for the princess and his master, Natsu. His plans, however, failed after the princess was turned off by a barbaric Natsu.

The father dies

The father, Macao, dying

There once was a man and his sons who made a living by grinding noodles. However, the father died at a young age and the sons are forced to divide all of his assets among themselves. The eldest brother, Gajeel, immediately takes the Grinding Noodle store for himself, planning to turn it into a factory in order to earn a huge amount of money. The second brother, Gray, decides to take all the money but decides to leave a few copper coins and a cat for his brother, Natsu. With nothing but a few coins and a cat, Natsu decides to leave his home.

As Natsu continues his journey, he collapses due to exhaustion and begins to cry, angered by his brothers who took away his home and money. The cat then speaks, introducing himself as Happy and asking for a pair of boots and a sack, saying that he is useful even though he is a cat. Using all of his money, Natsu buys a pair of boots and a sack for his cat who uses the sack to capture an animal and heads to the Royal City, telling Natsu to wait for him.

Natsu became barbaric

A barbaric Natsu

The guards try to stop Happy from entering the castle but allows him to pass when Happy shows them that he is wearing boots. With that, Happy heads towards the throne room and presents the animal to the delighted princess as a gift from Natsu. Everyday after that, Happy brings more gifts for the princess which includes a cow, a crab and a maid and states that the gifts are from his master. As time passes on, the princess begins to fall for Natsu whom she had never met, unaware that she is falling to Happy's plan. The princess then asks Happy to let her meet his master and Happy happily agrees, thinking that Natsu will get rich if he is to be married to the princess. The two head to the forest where Natsu leaves alone. As Happy presents his master, the two discover that Natsu has turned barbaric after being alone in the wilderness for such a long period of time. Seeing Natsu beating up the animals, the princess immediately turns to leave.
