History
Juvia was born in the year X767, and spent her childhood shunned by the other children for constantly making it rain around her. She took up making teru teru bozu dolls in an attempt to make it stop raining, but it only served to make the other children tease her even more.
As she grew older, she would overhear other people commenting on the gloominess of the rain around her, making her feel increasingly depressed. At one point in her life she was in a relationship with Bora, but he broke up with her because he couldn't stand the rain. Eventually, she was accepted into the Phantom Lord Guild, noting that it was the first time anyone had accepted her, and formed a quarter of the guild's elite Mage team: Element 4.[1][2]
Synopsis
Phantom Lord arc
The Phantom Lord Guild proclaims war on Fairy Tail by destroying their guildhall and hurting their Shadow Gear team.[3][4] After the attack, Jose Porla tasks Juvia and Sol with capturing Lucy Heartfilia, the duo found her as she leaves the infirmary where the members of Shadow Gear are being treated. Juvia initially does not recognize Lucy and walks past her after a brief meeting, prompting Sol to identify their target for her. Lucy prepares to fight the two members of the guild that hurt her friends, but Juvia captures her with her Water Lock spell. With their mission complete, Juvia and Sol bring Lucy to their master.[5][6]
Later, during Phantom Lord's attack on Fairy Tail, Juvia is stationed inside the guild's mobile fortress, which has transformed into a giant robot -the Super Mage Giant Phantom MK II- to help cast the forbidden Abyss Break spell.[7] She appears before Gray Fullbuster, who has infiltrated the base in search of a way to stop the robot. Upon laying eyes on him, Juvia becomes attracted to him and is reluctant to fight him, instead asking him to bring Lucy to her to spare herself from having to hurt him. However, Gray refuses, saying he would give up his life to protect her. Juvia immediately misinterprets Gray's resolve and is under the impression that he and Lucy are an item, which prompts her to declare Lucy as her unforgivable rival in love.[8]
During the fight that ensues, Gray manages to freeze Juvia's body, but accidentally gropes her breast and unfreezes her in embarrassment. Moved by his apparent kindness, she tries to confess her fondness of him, but instead causes it to rain even harder; Gray thoughtlessly remarks on the gloomy weather. Now thinking Gray to be as uncaring to her as everyone else who has teased her throughout her life, Juvia attacks him in a vengeful fury, but Gray, determined to win, manages to once again freeze her boiling body with his Ice Geyser. The shock of her defeat snaps her out of her anger and depression, causing it to stop raining. For the first time in her life, Juvia is able to see the clear, blue sky, the beauty of which moves her to tears. She then spontaneously falls in love with Gray all over again and, overwhelmed, passes out.[9] Her defeat subsequently slows the casting of the Abyss Break spell, which stops entirely after all four members of Element 4 are defeated.
Following Juvia's defeat, Phantom Lord loses the war against Fairy Tail and is consequently disbanded by order of the Magic Council, leaving Juvia as an Independent Mage. However, her obsession with Gray remains, causing her to stalk him and leave him boxed lunches at any given opportunity.[10]
Tower of Heaven arc
Juvia follows Gray and his friends on a vacation to one of Fairy Tail's most extravagant seaside resorts. She musters up the courage to speak to Gray again, and reveals her intentions to join Fairy Tail now that she is an Independent Mage. As Gray discusses the idea with her, the two are suddenly attacked by Simon, a Dark Mage searching for Erza Scarlet.[11] Juvia defends Gray and tells him to search for Erza, but Simon uses his Shadow Magic to darken the entire room, moving to attack whilst they are momentarily blind.[12] However, Juvia manages to protect Gray by hiding him inside her water body, whilst Gray leaves a clone of himself for Simon to attack.[13] Simon attacks the fake and proceeds to leave, though Juvia notices something off about his actions: because he is a user of Shadow Magic, he would also have the power to see in the dark; he thus wouldn't have been fooled by Gray's Ice Clone, which he had attacked anyway.[14]
Determined to verify Simon's motives, Juvia accompanies Team Natsu as they head towards the Tower of Heaven, where Erza and Happy have been taken after being kidnapped by Simon and his allies.[15] She helps the three infiltrate the tower through an underwater passage, giving them her oxygen-filled Water Bubbles for them to breathe with (making Lucy's bubble smaller than Natsu and Gray's as a testament of her hostility towards her), and effortlessly fights off the guards they encounter inside.[16] No sooner do they enter one of the tower's main halls do they run into Erza, who has already freed herself from her captives. Juvia becomes nervous that Erza will object to her joining Fairy Tail as a former member of Phantom Lord, but Erza overlooks her and tells everyone to leave - save Natsu, who runs off to find Happy. When the group refuse however, Erza is talked into revealing her tragic past as a former slave of the Tower of Heaven, and how her former friends, including Simon and Jellal Fernandes, intend to use her as a sacrifice to revive the Dark Mage Zeref.[17]
Shortly after Erza finishes her story, the group are approached by Simon, who confirms Juvia's earlier suspicions that he had attacked Gray's Ice Clone on purpose.[14] Saying that his true loyalties lie with Erza and not Jellal, Simon joins the group to help them find Natsu and stop Jellal, as does Shô, another of Erza's former friends.[18] As they ascend the tower, Jellal broadcasts a challenge to defeat him, revealing the presence of three additional challengers, Trinity Raven; he also adds that the Magic Council's ultimate weapon, Etherion, is set to destroy the tower and everyone in it. Shô, seeing Jellal's true colors for the first time, snaps and runs off to kill Jellal by himself, sealing Erza inside a Magic card and taking her with him for her protection.[19] Though Juvia is eager to travel together with Gray, he sends her together with Lucy to search for Natsu while he follows after Erza.[20]
Moving together through the tower, Juvia and Lucy encounter Vidaldus Taka, one of the members of Trinity Raven. Immune to his flailing hair attacks, Juvia uses her Water Lock on Vidaldus, but he absorbs it with his hair. Vidaldus then casts Rock of Succubus on her, transforming her into his slave and forcing her to fight Lucy against her will.[21] However, Juvia's true voice reaches out to Lucy during their fight, saying that she doesn't wish to hurt anyone in Fairy Tail, not even her "rival in love;" she has come to love Fairy Tail, but now despairs that she is only bringing them sadness as she has done to many others throughout her life. Moved by her sincerity, Lucy ensures Juvia that she will surely be accepted by Fairy Tail and summons Aquarius inside Juvia's water body, freeing her from Vidaldus' control. Juvia and Lucy grab each other's hands and perform a Unison Raid against Vidaldus; the man tries to absorb Aquarius' water, but ends up being defeated.[22] While resting after their hard-earned victory, Juvia and Lucy put aside their differences and become friends.[23]
Juvia and Lucy are both found by Wally Buchanan and Millianna, two of Simon's other friends who have turned against Jellal.[24] They regroup with everyone else and board a small boat to escape the tower while Natsu, Erza, and Simon remain inside to stop Jellal.[25] Etherion fires as they sail away, unleashing a wave of water that destroys the boat, but Juvia rescues everyone with a Water Dome. The group worry about their friends inside the tower who were hit by Etherion, but are shocked to see that the attack does not destroy the tower; rather, it is absorbed by the Lacrima hidden inside.[26] Juvia and the others watch from afar as Natsu defeats Jellal and destroys the tower, and joyfully embrace him and Erza as they escape safe and sound; however, they are saddened to hear that Simon lost his life protecting the two from Jellal.[27] As Natsu, Lucy, Gray, Erza, and Team Jellal return to the resort to recover from the event, Juvia goes to the newly renovated Fairy Tail guildhall to meet with the guild's master, Makarov Dreyar, now prepared to ask him for guild membership.[28]
Battle of Fairy Tail arc
Successfully becoming a member of the Fairy Tail Guild with Master Makarov's full blessing, Juvia greets Gray and his friends when they return to the guild, her hair cut and her clothes changed to mark her new beginning. She then reveals to her new friends that she invited Gajeel Redfox to join as well.[29]
When a reporter from the Sorcerer Magazine comes to interview the members of Fairy Tail, Gray asks who the reporter is; Juvia reminds him of what Makarov told them yesterday regarding the man. When the reporter comes to talk to Gray, he is in his underwear, which Juvia hastily points out.[30] When Gajeel later performs on stage in front of Fairy Tail, Juvia cheers him on, telling him to try his best.[31]
To start the Harvest Festival, a beauty contest takes place at the Fairy Tail Guild, and Juvia decides to compete in it alongside Lucy, Erza, Cana, Mirajane, Levy, and Bisca. When the Thunder God Tribe arrive, Evergreen turns all the contestants, including Juvia, into stone, rendering them immobilized as the panicked members of Fairy Tail all run off to track down Laxus and his gang to reverse the spell.[32] After Erza defeats Evergreen, Juvia, along with the other girls, is released from Evergreen's stone gaze.[33] Makarov and Natsu update Juvia and the other girls on what is going on, explaining how Laxus is making Fairy Tail members battle each other through the use of Fried Justine's Jutsu Shiki Magic.[34] When Laxus announces that, due to the recovery of the girls, he is going to use Thunder Palace, Juvia goes outside with everyone else and sees orbs of lighting Lacrima surrounding Magnolia.[35]
Deciding to join the battle of Fairy Tail themselves, the freed female Mages all set out to locate Laxus and his gang; Juvia teams up with Cana.[36] She and Cana later run into Fried, a member of the Thunder God Tribe, and get trapped in his rune Enchantment, from which they can't escape unless one of them is rendered unable to fight. Fried tells them he will take care of the winner himself.[37] After Cana fails to convince Fried to let them go, Juvia tells Cana that they have no choice, and she starts using her Water Body. Cana backs away from Juvia and begs for her to stop, for if they fight they will only play into Fried's plans. Juvia flies her Water Body towards Cana, but then turns and goes up the Enchantment rune box. Fried yells out to her, commenting that it is pointless to try and escape by going higher, as his runes are not walls, rather boxes. However, Fried then realizes Juvia is heading for one of Laxus' lightning Lacrima's from the Thunder Palace spell, and watches as Juvia destroys the Lacrima, activating its Organic Link Magic and electrocuting herself. Juvia falls to the ground, defeated, and the runes disappear. Cana runs to the injured Juvia's side and asks why she would do something so risky; Juvia states she refuses to hurt a member of her new guild, and just wants to be accepted as a true Fairy Tail Mage.[38] Moved by her noble sacrifice, Cana cries and says that Juvia is already a Mage of Fairy Tail, leaving Juvia glad as she loses consciousness.[39] After Fried's defeat, Elfman carries Juvia's body as they return to the guild to all receive treatment for their wounds.[40]
As the guild heals, Juvia expresses her joy at being able to see the Fantasia Parade, but then panics when Cana tells her that she is going to take part in it.[41] During the Fantasia Parade, she and Gray perform on the same float as a King and Queen, creating a castle of ice and water whilst a water-iced mist is used for atmosphere.[42]
Oración Seis arc
After the Harvest Festival, Juvia is rewarded third place in the Miss Fairy Tail Contest.[43] She is next seen attending the meeting on Dark Guilds, talking about the Balam Alliance along with the other members of Fairy Tail.[44] She tells them that during her time in Phantom Lord, she and Gajeel took down many of the Oración Seis' smaller divisions.[45] When some of the members of Fairy Tail then head out to take down the Oración Seis themselves, Juvia does not take part, due to her being out on another mission with Gajeel.[46]
Daphne arc
Note: Events occurring in this arc are only in the anime and do not constitute canon material.
When Erza starts worrying about the whereabouts of Natsu and Wendy, who haven't returned from a mission they went to undertake, Juvia points out she has a strange feeling in her heart about the location of Gray as well.[47]
Gray suddenly begins cooperating with a Dark Mage named Daphne, helping her capture Natsu to power her Dragonoid, the creature with which she intends to use so that she can destroy Magnolia Town.[48] During Daphne's attack on the city, Juvia fights alongside her guild mates to help destroy Daphne's army of Lizardmen. Gray is forcefully retrieved by his guild mates, who demand to know why he would betray Fairy Tail, though Juvia defends him, refusing to believe he would do such a thing.[49] After being interrogated by Makarov, Gray explains to the guild that he had only assisted Daphne to make Natsu remember a promise he made as a child to break a spell that Daphne had cast on another town, turning its residents invisible; Juvia is relieved that Gray was acting in the interest of his friend. She then helps Gray destroy the Lizardman army and damage Daphne's Dragonoid by performing a Unison Raid with him.[50]
Edolas arc
Juvia tearfully welcomes Gray back from his battle against Oración Seis, literally flooding the guildhall with her tears.[51] More or less, she begins leading a casual life at Fairy Tail,[52] but just before things practically become uneventful, an Anima portal appears over the town, sucking the entire city into it and transforming her and several other members of Fairy Tail into a massive Lacrima crystal to be used as a source of Magic Power for the parallel world of Edolas.[53] Thanks to the efforts of Mystogan and Team Natsu, however, the effects of Anima are reversed, and Juvia is restored together with the entire city with no recollection of the event whatsoever.
Tenrou Island arc
Alongside the rest of the guild, Juvia is briefed on Team Natsu's adventures in Edolas, and what became of Mystogan and Lisanna. She learns from Happy that he and the others met an alternate version of Gray, who in the parallel world was in love with an alternate Juvia, who sported her original hairstyle. Depressed, Juvia goes back to wearing her original hairstyle and attire from before she joined Fairy Tail, all the while despairingly wishing to go to Edolas.[54] Later, to her surprise, Juvia is selected as one of the eight candidates for the upcoming annual S-Class Mage Promotion Trial, which will promote the one Mage who passes to S-Class. She initially tries to withdraw from the trial because she won't be able to partner with Gray, another one of the trial's participants. Lisanna, who had recently returned to Fairy Tail from Edolas, decides to become Juvia's partner since she had a good relationship with Edolas-Juvia, though Juvia naturally views her as another rival for Gray's affections.[55]
She travels alongside the other trial participants by boat to their trial's destination of Tenrou Island, unaffected by the heat that the others are complaining about. Makarov explains to them the rules of their first trial: to reach Tenrou Island from afar and take one of eight paths which will lead them to one of three situations: fight another pair of the trial's candidates, fight one of the guild's current S-Class Mages (Erza, Mirajane, and Gildarts), or be lucky and get the only path that is hindrance free. When the trial begins, both she others are forced to wait on the boat for five minutes after Fried casts a runic Enchantment to get a head start. Once the Enchantment lifts, Juvia easily swims to the island in her watery form alongside Lisanna, who uses Take Over to transform into a fish.[56] Juvia and Lisanna select "Route D" and encounter Erza as their opponent. The two face a difficult challenge against Erza, who wears her Sea Empress Armor to nullify Juvia's Magic.[57] Despite putting up a tough fight, the two are defeated and eliminated from the trial.[58]
The two go to the island's camp together with Erza and Mirajane, the latter of whom reveals that she had lost against Elfman and Evergreen after they tricked her into thinking they were getting married to lower her guard. Mirajane openly ponders the idea of Elfman and Evergreen marrying and having a child, which causes Juvia to become flustered over the thought of having children with Gray. Hoping to go out and cheer for Gray now that she is no longer participating in the trial, she offers to go look for fellow candidate Mest and his partner Wendy (who haven't returned to the camp after failing their trial), but becomes frustrated when Erza decides to accompany her.[59]
As they travel through the forest, Juvia and Erza stumble across an injured Levy, who reveals that Gajeel is fighting two members of the Dark Guild Grimoire Heart. She brings her comrades to the clearing of the battle, where they find Gajeel gravely wounded, but victorious. One of Gajeel's opponents, Yomazu, reveals that his guild's main forces, including the Seven Kin of Purgatory, are coming to the island in search of the Dark Mage Zeref, prompting Erza to light a signal flare warning everyone of the upcoming attack, thus suspending the trial.[60] As per Yomazu's warning, a squadron of Grimoire Heart Mages appear before Juvia and Erza, but they fend them off.[61] They are soon approached by Meredy, one of the Seven Kin of Purgatory. Juvia is surprised by the young age of their opponent, but Erza senses a bizarre Magic Power from Meredy and warns Juvia not to underestimate her.[62]
Before their fight, Meredy reveals her guild's plan to awaken Zeref and create a world where non-Magic users cannot survive.[63] Juvia is further shocked when Meredy's Maguilty Sodom attack is able to harm her water body, and is completely overwhelmed by her until she is knocked down.[64] Throughout the battle, Meredy ranks her opponents in the order she plans to kill them, with Juvia being the "low-ranked" thirteenth place, and Erza being ranked fourth.[65] Despite her injuries, Juvia snaps to attention upon hearing the name of the one member of Fairy Tail Meredy has at the top of her list to kill: Gray Fullbuster. Meredy's declaration that she will never forgive Gray for causing pain to her beloved guild mate Ultear brings Juvia to her feet in an eerie, dissonant rage that unnerves both Meredy and Erza.[66]
Juvia suddenly begins fighting Meredy with ease and new-found determination that Erza notices she hadn't displayed during her earlier trial. She tells Erza to search for Wendy and Gray, deciding to fight Meredy on her own, and covers Erza's escape when Meredy tries to prevent it.[67] Meredy decides to create a Sensory Link between Juvia and Gray to synchronize their senses, thus making Gray feel the pain of the attacks Meredy unleashes on Juvia. Juvia is overcome with pleasure over the thought of "being one" with Gray, but knowing that Meredy plans to kill him only increases her strength and will to fight. Noticing this, Meredy casts a Sensory Link on herself so that both Juvia and Gray will feel the pain of Juvia's attacks, and to ensure that Gray will die no matter which one of them dies.[68]
With her senses connected with Gray's, Meredy decides to kill herself to end Gray's life, but Juvia stops her by breaking her own leg. Unwilling to take anyone's life, not even that of an enemy, Juvia declares that all three of them can live.[69] Meredy still tries to kill herself anyway, but Juvia rushes forward and hugs her; as she does, Meredy's memories of her happiness with Ultear flood her mind. Juvia tearfully begs Meredy to live for the ones she loves, as she does. Her emotions reach Meredy through her Sensory Link, causing the Grimoire Heart girl to cry as well. The two reach an understanding and collapse, discontinuing their fight as Meredy lifts her Sensory Link off of the three.[70]
Later, the Tenrou Tree is uprooted by Azuma, causing all the members of Fairy Tail, including Juvia, to lose their Magic Power. However, Meredy brings Juvia to safety and waits with her until Azuma returns the guild's power.[71] Ultear arrives with an unconscious Zeref and decides to leave the island together with Meredy. Before they leave, Ultear notices the unconscious Juvia beside Meredy and tries to kill her despite Meredy's protests. Fortunately, Gray appears and rescues her; and though unconscious, she manages to hear Gray state his will to live with his friends, causing her to smile.[72]
She immediately reawakens when she hears Gray speak to her, and eagerly follows his orders to chase after Meredy as she tries to escape with Zeref. However, her movements are impeded due to her broken leg, forcing Juvia to crawl after Meredy.[73] Meredy tries to dissuade her from following by bringing up her supposed hypocrisy towards her earlier speech about love, but Juvia remains firm, not wanting to argue with her. The two run into Zancrow, who accuses Meredy of betraying Grimoire Heart with Ultear and attacks them, knocking them aside. Zancrow takes Zeref for himself and mockingly reveals that Ultear was responsible for the destruction of Meredy's hometown, angering Juvia when she sees Meredy's pain over the revelation. At that moment, Zeref reawakens and, uttering the name "Acnologia," unleashes a wave of Death Magic that kills Zancrow and leaves Juvia and Meredy unconscious.[74]
After Grimoire Heart is later defeated, Juvia manages to crawl back to camp, still injured. She apologizes for letting Zeref get away and comically requests Gray to punish her, but Gray refuses to fulfill her masochistic hobby.[75] The guild's celebration is interrupted when the black Dragon Acnologia appears and begins its rampage, terrifying everyone present. Juvia is carried away by Gray with the guild as Makarov covers their escape by fighting the Dragon.[76] However, the guild refuses to let their master die, and they return to help him fight Acnologia. The Dragon quickly becomes tired of the battle and flies into the air, preparing its breath attack to destroy the island. The guildmates all join hands and form a circle (with Juvia holding Gray and Lisanna's hands) in an attempt to prepare a defensive spell against the attack, however the Dragon seemingly eradicates Tenrou Island and everyone on it.[77]
X791 arc
Juvia, along with everyone else on Tenrou Island, returns to the Fairy Tail Guild after being found by Bisca, Alzack, Jet, Droy, Max, Warren and the Trimens from Blue Pegasus. She watches as Mavis Vermillion reveals that she was the one who saved them with the Magic Fairy Sphere and then disappears. She, along with the other returning members, is welcomed back by Romeo.[78] As Lyon Vastia later visits the Fairy Tail Guild with Sherry Blendy, Toby, Jura Neekis, and Yuka, he catches sight of Juvia for the first time and claims he is in love, which confuses Juvia greatly.[79]
Key of the Starry Sky arc
Note: Events in this arc occur only in the anime and do not constitute canon material.
When the members of Fairy Tail practice their dance skills to prepare for a job they will undertake, Juvia is jealous to see that Gray has asked Lucy to dance with him. She fiercely declares that if Gray will strip and dance, she will do the same, shocking some of the other Fairy Tail members. She does get her wish though, as Gray eventually dances with her.[80]
A few days later, Juvia hears that Gray and Erza are going to go on a mission together, much to her dismay. Not liking the idea of the two alone, Juvia follows them secretly, and hides behind some bushes. She hears a conversation between Erza and Gray, but misinterprets it and gets scared about what will happen next. Erza then notices that the bandits have arrived, much to Juvia’s relief, as nothing more can happen if they are busy fighting. When Gray is having difficulty defeating the Vanish Brothers, Juvia decides that she will help her Gray-sama and almost reveals herself, but Gray exclaims something, surprising her, and she stays hidden. Gray then defeats his opponents, which makes Juvia proud of him.[81]
When Fairy Tail decides to separate into teams in order to gather the five remaining clock parts of Lucy's father's memento, Juvia teams up with Gray. As the two head towards their destination she starts fantasizing over their relationship, and even pictures the two of them happily living together with a daughter. This daydream breaks when Lyon suddenly appears to join them on their mission, much to Juvia's confusion and embarrassment. When the trio arrives at the ruins were they are headed, all of them state that they don’t know what to do next.[82]
As Juvia and her group approach the ruins they are stopped at the door by a guard, which Magic doesn't work on. However, Juvia figures out it's weakness and aims for it's eye, which opens the door, and they then proceed inside. There are floating boxes in the air and they figure out that you have to use Magic to move them into some slots in the wall. They solve the puzzle and are transported away. When they awaken they run into Sugarboy. He quickly traps Juvia and Lyon in his slime and escapes. Gray then runs after him, and when he catches up the clock part they are searching for appears. Both men go for it at the same time and are transported back to their world. Lyon then frees himself and Juvia and they then return too, and together with Gray they defeat Sugarboy. They then leave with the clock piece.[83]
The trio travel to some underground ruins to meet up with the other groups, and arrive just in time to see Byro Cracy attacking Lucy and her team. With the rest of Fairy Tail, Juvia fires her Magic at the man to make him back off, to no avail though as their attacks are nullified. Before the fight can continue though the clock pieces start to glow and merge together to form the Infinity Clock, with some strange people appearing beneath the device.[84]
Upon being introduced to the Reborn Oración Seis, Juvia fights alongside Lyon. However, both do little during the fight as they are easily taken out by Racer. As they, as well as the other members of Fairy Tail lie defeated, the Blue Pegasus Guild arrives and rescues them. Juvia and the others are taken to their guild building where they all recuperate. She shows great anger at Bob due to the fact he was sharing the same bed as Gray.[85]
After returning to the guild, Juvia and the others discuss the Reborn Oración Seis and the Infinity Clock. Juvia, along with others, is shocked and confused when Kinana writes some mysterious words on the wall with a fork. Juvia watches as Cana chooses the teams to find Oración Seis, and is paired with Gajeel, much to her dislike as she is sad and angry that she can't be together with Gray again.[86]
After being teamed up with Gajeel, much to her dislike, the team departs. On the way to their destination Juvia imagines being on a date with Gray and Gajeel ruining it, making her angry and sad. When they arrive at their destination, the two see Mary Hughes and Guttman Kubrick at a church. Juvia is shocked to see there has been a falling out between the two. Mary is attacked by Guttman and Juvia and Gajeel rush to aid her, but are both attacked by Guttman as well, being unable to do a thing against his Rupture Magic. However, the two still do not give in, and continue to stand and face him.[87]
Gajeel's constant assaults buy Juvia enough time for her to restore her powers and recover, allowing her to use her Water Lock on Guttman Kubrick and capture him. He uses his Rupture Magic to get rid of Juvia, but she still holds on to him, allowing Gajeel to land a direct hit on his target, defeating him. Gajeel then comments that their timing was a bit off, but Juvia responds that the timing would be perfect, had it been Gray in Gajeel's place. Still, the two Mages manage to impress Mary Hughes, who believed Guttman Kubrick was invincible. Juvia then witnesses, along with Gajeel, the Infinity Clock transforming into its true form, with Guttman commenting that Zentopia has now won.[88]
Juvia, having returned from her mission, meets with Elfman back at Fairy Tail as he reports that Lucy's friend Michelle Lobster is in fact Imitatia, the sixth member of Reborn Oración Seis, and that she captured both Natsu and Lucy. Before any action can be taken to save the two Mages, the Archaeologists Lucy had met with earlier appear to Fairy Tail, requesting to meet with the Celestial Spirit Mage.
After learning that Lucy has been kidnapped, one of the Archaeologists reveals to Juvia and the rest of the Fairy Tail Mages that he is a descendant of Will Neville. He then proceeds to explain how Jude Heartfilia acquired the hand of the Clock, as well as how dangerous Real Nightmare will be if the Infinity Clock isn't stopped soon; he requests that Juvia and the other Fairy Tail Mages prevent Real Nightmare once and for all. Soon after that, Christina appears in the sky, and a team of Fairy Tail Mages accompanies Ichiya and heads towards the Infinity Clock. Juvia, however, is one of the members chosen to stay back at the guild.[89]
After the events surrounding the Infinity Clock end, the Legion Corps comes to the guild to apologize and say goodbye to Juvia and the others. They then head off on their life long mission to find the pieces of the Infinity Clock scattered around the world after a short party.[90]
Grand Magic Games arc
Juvia and the other members of Fairy Tail go to the beach to train for the Grand Magic Games. However, instead they start having fun and decide to just relax for the first day. Later on that day, Juvia trains with her Magic by manipulating the waves. At night, she and other girls go to the bath, but she is too embarrassed and doesn't let any of the other girls see her. When the guys try to peep on them and Erza moves to stop them, she immediately defends Gray, saying he would never do something like that.[91]
Later, Juvia goes to the Celestial Spirit World with the others and enjoying her time there, talking to and becoming good friends with Aquarius.[92] Along with the others, Juvia is disappointed in the end because one day in the Spirit World is equal to three months in Earth Land, the group only realizing this after they return and discover that all of their training time has been lost.[93] As Juvia becomes tired at the idea of Erza's one day crash training from hell, the group receive an invitation inviting them to the forest, and, heading there, they meet Meredy, Ultear and Jellal. Juvia and Meredy hug each other like long-lost friends; Juvia is glad to see Meredy smiling cheerfully. Revealing that they'd like Fairy Tail to investigate a malicious Magic force at the Grand Magic Games, the trio offer to use Ultear's Arc of Time to unlock their Second Origin.[94]
Juvia watches in horror as Natsu writhes around on the floor in pain when Ultear begins the process to tap into their Second Origin. When Meredy asks Gray if he would like a sense link to feel what Natsu is feeling, Juvia notes that she has loosened up a bit. When Happy comments that Erza and Jellal have left just by themselves, Juvia grabs Gray and pulls him away, all the while saying that she wants to be alone too.[95] Later that evening, she too writhes around on the floor in pain as she undergoes the process to elevate her Magic Power.[96]
Juvia arrives at Crocus, the capital of Fiore, to cheer for the guild in the Grand Magic Games. She meets with Gray and asks him if he wants to go eat with her, but as Gray is about to accept, Lyon appears and says he knows some pretty good restaurants. Lyon then grabs Juvia and asks her to go to the aquarium with him. Gray and Lyon start having an argument until Lyon proposes a bet without Juvia's permission: if Lamia Scale wins the Games, Juvia will join their guild.[97]
To everyone's surprise Juvia is revealed to be part of a second team of competitors belonging to Fairy Tail.[98] On the first day of events, she chooses to represent the B team in the first game of the tournament, Hidden, on the basis that Gray is competing for the A team.[99] She is first to lose a point after trying to hug one of the Gray clones from behind, her gesture being seen as an 'attack'.[100] As the event continues, she saves Gray from Lyon by jumping on top of the Lamia Scale Mage's head, but she and Gray are then hit by Nullpudding.[101] Eventually, Rufus uses his Memory-Make Magic and hits almost everyone on the field, easily putting Sabertooth in the lead.[102] When the event ends, Juvia ends up with one point, putting her team in seventh place.[103] She is later seen moping by herself over her poor performance.[104]
With the days battles finished, Juvia joins the Fairy Tail "post-defeat celebration" with the rest of the guild. After learning that Lucy and Gray are still back at their lodgings, Juvia allows her imagination to go wild with a scenario involving Lucy confessing her love. After Makarov gives an encouraging speech, Juvia is seen blushing as Gray gets progressively more naked.[105] During the next days event, Chariot, the Dragon Slayers secret weakness to transportation is publicly shown; Laxus asks his team-mates not to tell anyone that he too suffers from it, though Juvia comments that it's now quite obvious. She is shown smiling when Natsu gives his impassioned speech for winning the tournament.[106] Later, during Elfman's battle against Bacchus, when Elfman attempted to use a new, faster Take Over in order to make contact with his opponent, Juvia expresses her hope that it will work, and later when Elfman tries a different strategy, Juvia states that it's quite unreasonable. Juvia is then seen smiling at Elfman's victory.[107] After Mirajane's battle against Jenny Realight ends in victory for their team, Juvia is seen happy that their team has earned additional points.[108] Juvia then congratulates her team-mate as Mirajane re-enters their corner.[109] Later, Juvia and Lyon "snatch" Gray away for a, supposedly, romantic confrontation,[110] though Gray manages to somehow escape later on.[111]
During the third day's battle portion, Juvia is surprised to see what appears to be Laxus getting beaten around by "Alexei."[112] She later expresses shock when she sees Laxus disappear and another Laxus popping up out of nowhere, with Raven Tail's members defeated and "Alexei" exposed as Ivan Dreyar. When Laxus is declared the winner, Juvia is visibly pleased.[113] After Laxus's triumph over Raven Tail, the battle involving Wendy and Sherria starts. During the battle, Wendy succeeds in evading Sherria's powerful Heavenly Gathering of Clouds, and Juvia is seen next to Mirajane as the woman explains Sherria's Magic effect; she says that Sherria has the ability to cure her own injuries but cannot recover from her fatigue. Carla continues, saying as Wendy has the ability to recover fatigue and decided to boost Sherria's stamina to change the course of Sherria's attack.[114]
After Fairy Tail's successful third day at the Grand Magic Games, Juvia once again heads out with the rest of the guild to celebrate at a bar. Whilst there, she congratulates Gray on his performance despite the fact the he did not compete that day at all, and watches as Gray attempts to barrel surf with the other guild members.[115] A while later, Juvia decides to accompany the rest of Fairy Tail when they all go to Ryuzetsu Land, a popular leisure center in Crocus. Upon arriving, Juvia quickly asks Gray to accompany her on the "Love Slide," though she is turned down when he hears that the point of the slide is that two people go down hugging. Before she can say anything about Gray's attitude, she is swept off her feet by Lyon, who tells her to go with him instead.[116] Becoming worried when the two begin to fight, Juvia steps in between them and once again asks Gray to slide with her. Despite the two still arguing, the group makes their way to the top of the slide, only for Gray and Lyon to go down together when they are pushed by Natsu, Juvia watching and wondering if she is seeing some form of male love.[117] When Gray and Lyon freeze the pool fighting, Natsu moves to melt the ice, but uses too much Magic Power, blowing the building to pieces; Juvia is thrown in the blast and lands completely fazed at the turn of events.[118]
On the fourth day of the Grand Magic Games, Juvia decides to enter her second event, 'Naval Battle'. The event requires the participants to swim inside a floating sphere of water and knock each other out, and as such, Juvia enters the event confident that she can be victorious, as water is her expertise. When the event starts, Lucy tries to gain the upper hand by summoning Aquarius, but Juvia counters this by casting Water Cyclone, which catches all of the participants up in a whirlpool. With Aquarius deciding to go back to the Celestial Spirit World, Juvia uses a unique spell she acquired after having her Second Origin opened to remove all of her opponents at once. She unleashes a flurry of water filled with love hearts, dedicating the spell to her love for Gray. The spell proves to be very effective, as she knocks Jenny, Risley and Sherria from the ring in the single attack. Pleased with herself, Juvia spreads her arms wide and poses for the applause of the crowd, before turning to see Gray's reaction. What she sees was not the loving look she wanted, rather Gray's expression is one of disgust, something which causes Juvia to fly into shock. While she is distracted, Minerva takes the opportunity to use her Magic and teleport Juvia outside the arena. Juvia falls to the ground, thus receiving third place, much to the shock and the disappointment of her team.[119]
Once Juvia is sent out, Minerva begins treating Lucy cruelly, something which shocks Juvia.[120] Once the event is over and Lucy is taken to the infirmary to rest, Juvia bursts into the room with Mirajane and asks if Lucy is okay. Seconds later, Makarov enter and tells everyone present that Team Fairy Tail A and B will have to merge due to the uneven number of teams after Raven Tail's disqualification.[121] Juvia later watches as the new Team Fairy Tail arrives and says that she can't imagine them losing to anybody.[122] She then watches the following battle between Natsu, Gajeel, Sting and Rogue. Juvia is silent for the most part, merely looking in worry when both appear to have been utterly defeated.[123] However, when this is proven false, and when Sabertooth's team is defeated, Juvia looks on in happiness.[124]
Back at the lodgings, she listens as Natsu, Gray, Erza and Gajeel reveal that Lucy has been captured by Arcadios, a member of the King's guard.[125] She listens as everyone discuss the reason why the King did not take them too, and concludes that maybe they do not want a Mage guild as an enemy.[126] The next day, Juvia serves as a replacement for Natsu as team Fairy Tail enters the arena.[127] As the rules for the final day are explained to the Mages, Juvia and the rest of the team listen in. While talking, Erza explains that they need to win to save Lucy, with Juvia adding that if Natsu and the others could save her, that'd be best. As everyone joins in a group cheer, the final game officially begins.[128] When the games start and the members of the other teams scatter, Juvia and the rest of the team remain in place, much to everyone's surprise, while their opponents battle one another.[129] Soon after the battles commence and continue, Mavis explains that she presented the team with a strategy based on her observations to assure victory, and gives them the command to go, at which point Juvia and the rest rush into battle.[130]
With Mavis' strategy, Juvia goes with the rest of her team into battle, quickly being faced by Rufus' Falling Stars technique. Thanks to the strategy, Juvia is able to dodge the attack and proceed further.[131] Soon after, Juvia watches as Gray battles against Rufus of Team Sabertooth, blushing as the former takes off his shirt during battle[132] and fawning over him when he manages to defeat Rufus in the end.[133]
Coursing through the battleground, Juvia is found by Sherria Blendy, who attacks with her Sky God's Boreas. As she prepares to fight back, she is caught off-guard by Sherria's assertion that Juvia is Lyon's beloved, allowing Sherria to attack her head-on.[134] Sometime later during their scuffle, both Mages look on in shock as Minerva casts a powerful spell during her battle with Erza and Kagura Mikazuchi.[135] They then resume to fight against each other, as shown on the Lacrima screens.[136] Later on, when accused of using her charms against Lyon, Juvia tells Sherria that her heart belongs to Gray only. Soon after, they notice that Gray and Lyon have both arrived to assist them. Misinterpreting the situation, an excited Juvia runs up to Gray and asks where their honeymoon will be, which both parties meet with ridiculous acclaim.[137]
While an annoyed Gray prepares for the battle with Sherria and Lyon, Juvia remains dazedly latched onto him.[138] Once the battle begins, Juvia moves to the water below the bridge while Gray stays up top. As Gray avoids Lyon's attack, he calls out to Juvia down below, signaling her to supply him with a large volume of water, which he uses to attack Lyon. However, the move is blocked by Sherria and Gray is injured by Lyon's counter-attack, making Juvia wonder in worry about how powerful Lyon is, though Gray tells her that due to their opponents not having as effective teamwork, they still have a chance to win.[139] However, the two are injured in battle, panting heavily while Lyon and Sherria sustain less damage. As they prepare to finish them off, Juvia looks down but soon finds Gray's hand on her shoulders, the man telling her that they can still win with their superior teamwork. Her hand taken by Gray, Juvia agrees with him as he tells her they will use their full Magic.[140]
Intent on winning, Juvia joins hands with Gray as the two combine their Magic.[141] Pushing forward, Juvia and Gray attack with a combination of Water Nebula and Ice Geyser, sending Lyon and Sherria flying and giving the victory to the two of them.[142]
After the battle is done, Juvia continues to hold Gray's hand, causing him to ask when she will let go. Commenting that she never will, Juvia snuggles up to the Ice Mage, scaring him.[143] Afterwards, Sting calls out the Fairy Tail Mages to battle him, causing Juvia and Gray to go find him. As Sting claims he can defeat them all by himself due to their wounds, Juvia tells him not to underestimate Fairy Tail. Juvia stands as Sting prepares himself, but ultimately the Sabertooth Mage surrenders, feeling he cannot achieve his objective, giving the victory to Team Fairy Tail and winning them the Grand Magic Games.[144] Juvia smiles at the victory and later again as Sting is reunited with his Exceed, Lector.[145] After their victory, as Sting attempts to question Gajeel, Gajeel blatantly expresses his agitation towards Sting's facial expression, which astonishes Juvia.[146]
Juvia, along with the members of many other Guilds, is summoned by the King, and is told of the looming threat of the 10,000 Dragons that are predicted to attack the country.[147] Juvia cheers, alongside the members of all the other Guilds, when they declare that they will defend Fiore from the Dragons.[148] Over the raucous cheering, Sherria asks Juvia if Wendy is okay, to which Juvia replies that she believes her to be.[149] As the guilds prepare themselves for the upcoming battle, Gray notes that the healers from the military and Sherria have played an essential role in regaining their mobility, but Juvia mentions they would have fully recovered if Wendy were present.[150]
Not long after, the Dragons start arriving by means of the Eclipse Gate and begin wreaking havoc. Juvia stares on at the destruction as it occurs, unable to do anything.[151] Later, Juvia and the rest of Fairy Tail encounter the Dragon Atlas Flame, who releases a Dragon's Roar and disperses their members.[152] However, they successfully defend against it, much to Atlas Flame's surprise. After Makarov's unsuccessful attack, Atlas Flame strikes Juvia and the others again, stating that humans cannot beat a Dragon.[153] However, Laxus moves in and attacks Atlas Flame while Juvia watches. The Lightning Dragon Slayer tells the others to take care of the small Dragons released by Motherglare while he handles the big one, which Juvia does alongside several of her guildmates.[154]
In the midst of the battle, Juvia is approached by Meredy inside the wrecked Bar Sun, with the latter asking where Ultear has gone to since the two have been separated; Juvia says she hasn't seen her. Unexpectedly, Gray appears and saves Juvia and Meredy from an assault instigated by the smaller Dragons, with Lyon also appearing and chastising them for losing focus in a war zone, while attempting to incapacitate the other Dragon spawns in the vicinity. Gray tells Juvia he has something to tell her, which she immediately assumes is going to be a love confession, though Gray insists it is nothing of the sort, what he needs to say being fairly unimportant. As Juvia carries a flushed expression over her face conceptualizing Gray's matter of discussion, Lyon cries out as another creature appears and takes aim at her. Suddenly, Gray shoves her aside and takes the shot instead, piercing his chest. Juvia looks on in horror with Lyon and Meredy as Gray's body is riddled with laser fire from multiple arriving attackers. He is then shot in the head, compelling Juvia to scream in anguish as he falls.[155]
After the assault, Juvia lies next to the fatally wounded Gray, sobbing and looking on in pure agony, noting the laser that went right through Gray's skull.[156] However, from afar, after Ultear's sacrifice, time goes back exactly by a single minute prior to Gray's death. As time goes back by that single minute, Juvia and Meredy are saved by Gray again, and subsequently after Juvia's bashful reaction to Gray's intimate rescue, the Mages envision Gray's death and are astonished by the occurrence, with Juvia noting that she also witnessed it. Prior to Juvia's premonition taking place, Gray and Lyon both dismantle the threat, preventing the tragedy from occurring.[157]
Soon after, the destruction of the Eclipse Gate at Mercurius causes a flux in the time stream, removing those not of the present from the timeline. Thus, Future Rogue, the Dragons and the hatchlings slowly disappear. With the danger passed, Juvia happily hugs Meredy, glad that the long battle has finally come to an end.[158] With the war now over, all of the Mages who participated are invited to Mercurius by King Toma for a celebratory party in their honor. Whilst there, Juvia finds and approaches Gray, telling him that she has upgraded to "Juvia 2.0." When Gray asks if she is some sort of machine, Juvia recalls her four previous appearances and personalities, states that she is entering another era and leaps at Gray whilst declaring her love. However, Gray sidesteps, sending her to the ground as he states that he too is entering a new era and says no thanks to her affection. However, Juvia merely blushes, happy that Gray is "toying with her feelings," whilst Gray yells that the "new" Juvia is even crazier than the last.[159] A little later, Juvia stands by the rest of her guild as they ask Yukino to join their ranks, wanting her to come with them but is also hesitant over the idea, as she believes Gray doesn't need another admirer.[160]
With everything past, Fairy Tail returns to Magnolia, where a crowd of fans awaits them, celebrating their victory. Juvia notices that Gray isn't in a good mood for some reason and questions him, telling him that it's rude to keep up such an expression whilst everyone is happy. Knowing that she's right and that he also has to keep smiling for "her" sake, Gray thanks Juvia, much to her bliss. Afterwards, Juvia observes the revelation of their reconstructed guild building.[161]
Eclipse Celestial Spirits arc
Note: Events in this arc occur only in the anime and do not constitute canon material.
With strange natural disasters and weather phenomena occurring around the world, jobs flood into the Fairy Tail Guild, and Juvia, together with Gray, takes a job that deals with the excessive heat in a village; together they complete it rather quickly. Later, they return to the guild only to witness Yukino stumble in and explain to them all that her Gold Keys don't work, the reason is unclear, and that she is worried that Lucy's don't work either.[162]
Juvia, along with the other Fairy Tail Mages, arrives as a reinforcement to help the main group through the use of Warren's Telepathy. This causes the Celestial Spirits to return to their gates due to being outnumbered. After taking one of Hisui's Celestial Spirit Banishment Keys, Juvia tracks down Aries, who awaits her in the desert.[163]
Wandering in a desert in search of Aries, Juvia seems to realize that something wonderful is happening as Gray's dance battle against Cancer progresses, feeling rueful that she missed it when the showdown ends, although she has no idea what exactly she has missed.[164] She continues her search, noting that the timeflow is definitely different in this world as the sun has been directly overhead although a lot of time has passed. Concluding that she won't be able to leave this world until she defeats Aries, she begins to bemoan the fact that she might faint due to dehydration even before she is able to face her opponent and desperately yells for the Celestial Spirit to show herself.[165]
She soon sees an oasis and heads towards it joyfully, only to realize that is but a mirage. At that moment, she is approached by Aries, who is driving a Magic Vehicle. As Aries mocks her, Juvia expresses her regret at seeing the formerly innocent and polite Aries act like a delinquent. Enraged, Aries successfully taunts Juvia with a bottle of water and then begins her assault, forcing Juvia to dodge. Juvia is unable to retaliate as her attacks immediately evaporate in the blistering heat, a result of the heat having sapped Juvia's power while she searched for Aries. The weakened Juvia is easily thrashed by Aries, who even drags her along the ground behind her Magic Vehicle. Suddenly, Juvia realizes that the vehicle's radiator must contain water and breaks it open, causing the liquiq to burst out. Rehydrated, she makes short work of the astonished Celestial Spirit and sends her back to the Celestial Spirit World, then wonders how to exit the desert.[165]
After reuniting with the Mages who have succeeded in closing their Spirits' gates, they decide to look for Natsu and the others. As they explore the cavern they're located in, they hear Ophiuchus' voice. After they are informed that the Celestial Spirit King is the one responsible for all the misfortune caused so far, Levy tells Cana and the others about Liberum Verus.[166] Also, she reveals that that the only way to stop Liberum is by destroying the Astral Spirytus and the Celestial Globe all at the same time. The Mages then move proceed with this plan, starting to destroy every last bit of the place. As the Mages deliver the last strike, Lucy, Yukino and Hisui shatter the Celestial Globe with Gottfried, whilst Natsu defeats Ophiuchus with Darkness Phoenix Blade.[167]
After such an act, the Mages wonder about their current situation. Horologium then appears, stating that Liberum managed to be completed and the Eclipse Celestial Spirit King is demolishing the Celestial World at the very moment. After receiving some proper clothing, Juvia and the rest ready themselves to enter the Celestial Spirit World. Once there, they find themselves face-to-face with a giant beast, whom Lucy recognizes to be the Celestial Spirit King himself.[168] Erza signals them to attack, but they are nothing but ineffective. The Celestial King then starts turning every Mage into a sky constellation, Juvia ending up as one, too.[168] After the defeat of the Eclipse King, though, Juvia is turned back to normal alongside her comrades. Briefly after, she listens to the Celestial Spirit King, who thanks the Mages for his past deed, although not clearly remembering them. After that, Juvia and the others return to their world.[169]
Some time later, Juvia joins Erza, Lucy, Levy and Wendy in a job at 8-Island. Suddenly, she is approached by Jet and Droy, both having Ichiya's face. Shocked, Juvia,Wendy and Carla hide in an alleyway, but Lucy is soon separated from the group because of her costume. At the same time, Wendy and Juvia are approached by Gray, who informs them that their guild has also been affected by this menace, striking even Laxus himself, who retains his monstrous power despite the transformation. As Juvia tries to embrace Gray to reassure herself, it is revealed that he is also affected, causing Wendy and Carla to run away in terror. Later that evening, the Mages discuss about Ichiya's latest invention: the Handsome Perfume.[170]
Sun Village arc
Later, while the other female members of Fairy Tail are bathing, Juvia watches from a distance. After discovering Flare amongst them, she comments on how similar their shy personalities are.[171]
Tartaros arc
As Fairy Tail enjoys some relaxation in their guild, Juvia approaches Gray, startling him when she reveals she has baked him a tray of buns that have his face on them. When Gray slyly tries to get out of eating the bread by saying he is uncomfortable eating something with his own face on it, Juvia remarks that she figured that would be the case, and presents another tray covered in bread displaying her face instead. Seeing Gray still hesitant, Elfman happily snatches up a handful of the "Juvi-bread" and stuff it into his mouth as Juvia cries over the idea of being eaten out by another man. However, much to her delight, Gray decides to try a bun, both he and Juvia slightly off-put when they realize he ate one of the buns with his face on it. Before they can continue, the two are interrupted by Jet running into the guild with some bad news.[172]
After Laxus, Yajima and the Thunder God Tribe are brought to Porlyusica for medical attention, Juvia looks on in worry as Porlyusica states that it is uncertain whether they may fully recover from their sustained injuries, and that Laxus may not have endured his injuries considering the toll they took.[173] Subsequently, Makarov boldly delivers a speech about defeating Tartaros and avenging their injured guildmates while Juvia and her peers sternly look on.[174]
After being dispatched to a former Councilor's location, Juvia and Gray regrettably inform Makarov via Communication Lacrima that they were too late to rescue the councilor, also noting the poor condition of the city due to carnage.[175] As the members of Fairy Tail deduce the mechanics of Face, Juvia notes that Tartaros may already know the location of the bomb, due to their lack of interrogation.[176] As Juvia and Gray head back to their guild riding a leopard-like creature, Juvia states that she has a bad feeling about the recent events, unrelated to the city they found cut up some time earlier. Gray holds her hands to reassure her, and tells her that Fairy Tail will always prevail no matter what.[177]
Back at the guild, Juvia and the rest of her peers discuss their expeditions and worry about their missing guildmates. As they continue to converse, a dazed Happy returns, with Juvia and co. listening on as Happy shares information of the missing members' whereabouts.[178] After Elfman returns and bears the bad news of Lisanna's capture, Juvia reassures Elfman to not worry and that they will get her back.[179] After Levy declares that Tartaros' base has been pinpointed, Juvia and the rest of her guildmates prepare for departure.[180]
Prior to an explosion caused by a possessed Elfman bringing in an explosive Lacrima as per Seilah's command,[181] Cana turned Juvia and all the other guild members into cards and had the Exceeds head straight for Cube, where Juvia and all the other Fairy Tail members were released from the cards to launch their counterattack.[182] During the fights that occur soon after, Juvia hastily runs to Gray's aid when a Tartaros troop tries to sneak up on him. Kicking the man in the face and demanding he not hug Gray from behind, both Juvia and Gray are interrupted when the ground beneath them is burst open by Erza, who used a spear inside the headquarters to attack Kyôka and subsequently created a hole for the guild to breach Cube through.[183] Subsequently, Juvia jumps into the breach along with several other Fairy Tail Mages, Porlyusica reminding them about the blood sample she asked for earlier.[184] Juvia, along with the rest of the guild, is later addressed by Mard Geer who threatens their lives with a powerful Curse. Activating his ability, the Demon King then sucks Juvia and her friends into Cube's surface and petrifies them all.[185]
After the Celestial Spirit King dispels Alegria and sets the members of Fairy Tail free from their petrification,[186] Juvia interrupts an assault by Keyes on Gajeel. Subsequently, Silver appears and prior to attacking Juvia, Gray enters the fray and protects the Water Mage. With Tempester and Natsu's arrival, Juvia and the members of Fairy Tail stare off against the members of Tartaros.[187] Juvia blushes in embarrassment when Gajeel mentions that Silver's smell reminds him of Gray, wondering if they have the same perfume. Juvia starts worrying when Silver rushes at Gray and disappears with him, and Tempester takes advantage of this opening, sending her and the others flying with his tornadoes. She later interferes to save Natsu from Keyes using her Water Slicer, but the Demon attacks back at her. After regrouping, Natsu, Gajeel and Juvia start their assault once again, with the latter pissed about Gray's whereabouts.[188] Juvia continues to fight Keyes, being sliced by his khakkhara as she states that she feels that Gray is in trouble.[189] When Keyes later comments that Gray's story will soon end, Juvia glares at him in an intense rage, listening as the Demon explains that Gray will lose himself in the face of a calamity.[190] Hearing Keyes speak of Silver's power as she dodges another attack, Juvia questions why a man with Demon slaying Magic would join a guild like Tartaros, listening as Keyes replies that it was all the will of Mard Geer that Silver be made a member of their elite force;[191] reflecting on Keyes' earlier words, Juvia then wonders if Gray will resort to using Iced Shell to defeat Silver.[192]
Keyes continues to commentate on Silver and Gray's battle as they fight, and Juvia learns from the Tartaros member that Silver is the animated corpse of Gray's father, and questions who Keyes is.[193] As she later dodges a blow from the Demon, she is contacted telepathically by Silver himself, the man explaining that Keyes is a necromancer who can control the dead, and that he is concurrently using Crawford Seam's dead body to activate the continent-wide Face bombs. Silver asks for Juvia to kill the Demon in order to stop Tartaros' plan from succeeding; however, knowing that Silver is also animated due to Keyes, Juvia realizes that killing Keyes will also kill Silver. Silver, though, tells her that she must act, for both Fiore and Gray's sake.[194]
Juvia continues to fight Keyes, while trying to contact Silver, questioning if Keyes' death will be good for Gray's sake. After being told about Silver's true motives of vengeance against Tartaros, Keyes taunts Juvia, telling her that humans are mere tools for him to use, and that that shall be his story; one in which he will create a perfect corpse. Enraged by his view on humans, Juvia attacks Keyes with a stream of water, but the Etherious merely dodges it. Before Juvia can react, Keyes binds her with his Magical Barrier Particles body and tells her to cut the bond between father and son by killing him, but she is reluctant to complete the task that Silver set for her. Mocking her feelings, Keyes tries to crush Juvia, but she enters into his body using her Water Body and defeats him, telling the demon that nothing can break humans' bonds, as she believes in humans' power of love, allowing Silver to rest in the afterlife. Before vanishing Silver thanks Juvia and tells her to take care of Gray.[195]
However, it is soon revealed that Keyes' body was composed of Magical Barrier Particles, and that these have entered Juvia's body when she was inside Keyes. Drained and now ill from the particles, Juvia collapses to the ground, being caught by Lucy, who promises the Water Mage that she can see Gray soon.[196] While unconscious, Juvia mumbles "love rival" towards Lucy, much to the latter's annoyance,[197] and, along with her guildmates, is then engulfed in lethal poisonous waters due to Torafuzar's Curse, leaving her unconscious in a vulnerable state.[198] She later falls on the ground after Gajeel defeats Torafuzar.[199] Being roused by her guildmates soon after, Juvia is sad to hear that Gray (who appeared after his fight with Silver to eliminate Tempester) has already departed, but has little time to think as Natsu and Gajeel suddenly begin to hear a familiar sound approaching. Together, Juvia and her friends stare on in shock as Acnologia approaches the destroyed Cube.[200] Juvia notes that all the Dragon Slayers are having an intense, physical reaction to Acnologia's presence.[201]
After seeing Igneel emerge from Natsu's body, Juvia frightfully questions how a Dragon could hide inside a human.[202] Later, an exhausted Juvia is being carried by Gajeel as the group heads to Porlyusica. She utters Gray's name, however, the Iron Dragon Slayer corrects her on who he is.[203] Shortly afterwards, Juvia is held by Levy as Gajeel murmurs Metalicana's name and the Face around Earth Land are being destroyed.[204]
One week later, after the defeat of Tartaros, Juvia follows Gray to his parents' grave in Isvan and tells him, after apologizing for following him, that she is the one who killed the necromancer who was controlling Silver, which resulted in his death; because of this, she believes she no longer has the right to love him. Gray initially rises and grabs her coat angrily, but Juvia is surprised when Gray begins to cry, thank and apologize to her for having to set his father free. She then embraces him and tells him that he's warm.[205] Juvia later sits with Gray as he tells her that he will defeat E.N.D. at any cost.[206]
Avatar arc
After Fairy Tail's disbanding, Juvia and Gray travel to Amefurashi Village where they live, eat, train, and work together. Six months later, Gray's body becomes covered with strange black markings and he begins to go out more and more on his own, worrying Juvia. After six months together, Gray disappears altogether, leaving Juvia alone and melancholy,[207] which caused rain clouds to begin pouring over the village.[208]
Six months after Gray's departure, Juvia sits out in front of her house near Amefurashi Village, depressed, and looks up when someone calls her name. Believing it to be Gray, Juvia lovingly runs forward but is equally surprised to find that Natsu, Happy, Lucy, Wendy and Carla have come to visit her. As she is asked how she is, Juvia collapses and is brought inside to rest her fever away; after a little while she wakes up and tells the group that she has been living in her house with Gray, but tells them the story of his disappearance. After short banter with Lucy, Juvia tells them that she wandered around looking for Gray for days, but that it was to no avail. Tearing up, she says that she decided to wait in the home that they share because she believes he will return someday. Juvia then turns over and remains silent, but awe-stricken, as Natsu informs her that he will revive Fairy Tail, after which she eventually falls asleep.[209]
As Natsu departs for Sabertooth in search of Gray, he takes Lucy and Happy with him, whereas Wendy and Carla are charged with taking care of Juvia, whose fever does not let up despite Wendy's attempts to cure her using her Magic.[210] Later, after recovering and heading to fight Avatar, Juvia overhears Briar say she loves Gray, causing Juvia to arrive and call her her love rival before striking her with Water Claw. After taking care of Briar, Juvia leaps into Gray's arms, saying she missed him and sensed he was in trouble so she rushed to help him. Gray says he isn't really in a pinch but apologizes and says he will explain everything later. The two then strip as they fight off the horde of enemies ahead of them.[211]
During the battle, Juvia feels a strange magical presence in the air, after which she witnesses the foot of the Battle God Ikusa-Tsunagi come down and kill many Avatar cultists before manifesting himself completely.[212] She then watches as the Battle God attacks with his extremely large sword; though she comes out unharmed, Juvia watches as Natsu runs up Ikusa-Tsunagi's sword. After he makes it to the top and tries to defeat the Battle God, she listens as Natsu gives a speech about the meaning of friendship and witnesses him ultimately strike down Ikusa-Tsunagi.[213] When Gajeel, Levy, and Panther Lily arrive on the battlefield, Juvia is shocked to see that Gajeel has become a councilman. She is even more puzzled when Gajeel claims that he is putting her under arrest for the crime of being "too moist." Erza arrives not too long afterwards, and Juvia says that she is overjoyed to be able to fight alongside her friends. At Erza's suggestion, Juvia, along with the other former Mages of Fairy Tail, join together for a "victory shout" to celebrate Avatar's demise.[214]
With Avatar defeated, everyone agrees to gather in Magnolia and revive Fairy Tail, and Juvia and Gray part from the group.[215] Some time later, Juvia shows up in Magnolia with most of the other prominent Fairy Tail members to act on the reformation plan, where Juvia tells Lucy that she's been reading her columns in Sorcerer Magazine Weekly ever since they've been published. Then, as Lucy cries tears of joy at finally being back where she belongs, Juvia smiles at her.[216]
Alvarez Empire arc
Juvia watches Gray help with the guild's reconstruction, and when he asks her for more nails, she hands him some with her Magic, getting the nails all wet in the process. She then snickers at Gray when he shamefully tells Macao that they weren't living together, but that Juvia more or less moved into his house and refused to leave.[217] Later, Juvia looks for Gray, and asks Cana if she has seen him; she is jokingly told that Cana drank him, although Juvia takes these words literally and starts grabbing ahold of Cana's mouth to look for Gray inside. Mirajane then tells her that he left with Lucy and some others to follow Mest Gryder; the thought of Gray and Lucy together making Juvia jealous. Gajeel then approaches and rests his elbow on Juvia's head, stating that they're going to form the B-Team and look for Laxus, while Juvia appears confused.[218]
Going in search of the other members, the group arrives at their destination, while Juvia sadly remarks that she is on the wrong team. When Gajeel states they wouldn't stand a chance in a fight against the Alvarez Empire and that he is not even sure an infiltration mission will succeed, Juvia is visibly shocked. At that moment, Levy arrives, stating that they need separate teams to raise their chance of success, before asking how they could leave her behind. Gajeel pulls out his bag and says she is so small he thought she was already inside it, and Juvia marvels at their "flirting."[219]
Later, they all head to the Pegasus Village hot springs to relax; they meet up with Ichiya, who tells them that Laxus and the Thunder God Tribe have joined Blue Pegasus, something which greatly astounds Juvia.[220] Later, the group bursts into Blue Pegasus to find Laxus and Juvia barbarically cheers about their upcoming journey to the Alvarez Empire.[221] By using Ichiya’s Christina, Juvia and the B-team arrive at the battlefield just in time, as Laxus rescues Team Natsu and the others from Ajeel’s Sands of Death. Juvia uses the following moment to shout to Gray through the speakers of the ship that she is there as well. As Laxus disperses Ajeel's sand attacks and engulfs him in a lightning blast, Mest teleports their group inside the airship. As they proceed to leave the location, Juvia expresses her happiness that Gray is okay, and along with her fellow Mages, watches as Makarov tears up over having the best family he could ever wish for.[222]
Back in the guild, after a short while of partying, Juvia listens to Makarov's apology and smiles when Natsu states that no matter what happens, they will fight against Alvarez in order to survive. She then pays attention as Makarov begins talking about Fairy Heart, however, Mavis appears. Juvia listens as the First Master prepares to explain why Zeref is after Fairy Tail's greatest secret.[223] After Mavis finishes narrating, Juvia appears to be shocked when she finds out that Fairy Heart is an infinite source of Magic Power.[224] She then cries when she realizes that Mavis will be forced to fight the man she once loved.[225]
Some time later, Juvia finds Gray alone on a balcony; her presence is noticed by him, and Juvia is told by Gray that he is grateful for her always being beside him, and tells her that when the battle with Alvarez is over, he'll give her an answer about how he feels towards her. He finishes by saying that for now he wishes to focus, and that like Natsu, he too has an ace in the hole for fighting Zeref and E.N.D., which Juvia smiles at.[226] Not long after, Juvia and Gray witness a fleet of fifty Alvarez airships led by Ajeel Raml of the Spriggan 12 descend upon Magnolia.[227] After the fight begins, Juvia, somewhere in the Magnolia, sees the shot of Jupiter and realizes that it's the Phantom Lord's main cannon.[228] Soon afterwards, Juvia realizes that Alvarez has managed to break through Fried's Jutsu Shiki and that they are coming from the direction of Fairy Hills.[229] Juvia then goes with Gray to intercept the incoming Alvarez forces and fights them, only to be eventually assisted by the Take Over siblings. Juvia then watches as Mirajane enters a new Take Over, Mirajane Seilah, remarking incredulously on her having taken over an Etherious.[230] A bit later, Juvia is caught in Ajeel's Sand World and looks for Gray, accidentally grabbing onto Lisanna as she cannot see very far in the storm.[231]
As the sandstorm dissipates, Juvia and the others notice five mechanical beings standing before them. Juvia is punched by one and believes its attack will be ineffective until it releases steam and burns her. Her comrades face similar trouble as they one by one realize that their foe is specifically designed to exploit their weaknesses. As Juvia and the others wonder how this is possible, Wall Eehto explains that exploiting his opponent's weaknesses is the ability of his Magic, Weakness.[232] However, Juvia and the others determine that to defeat the robots all they have to do is switch opponents, so Juvia takes on Gray's fire-producing robot and easily defeats it.[233] But the group's satisfaction over this victory is suddenly shattered as Kardia Cathedral is engulfed by a huge explosion, causing Juvia and the others to fret about the Thunder God Tribe's condition.[234] Juvia is later present at the meeting intended to plot their future course in the war. She is commanded to help Lamia Scale and Mermaid Heel retake Hargeon from the opposing forces and expresses her distaste upon realizing that she will meet Lyon again. She then answers Gray's query about Natsu's whereabouts by saying that the Dragon Slayer might have run off somewhere on his own.[235] As Gray and Erza clash over their opinions on Natsu taking off, Juvia is surprised at how angry Gray is[236] before becoming shocked when he notes that he is worried for Natsu.[237]
She later travels south with her party and, when they stop for the night, she reveals that she has brought a double sleeping bag to share with Gray; however, her offer is refused[238] and Erza happily accepts it instead, much to the Water Mage's displeasure.[239] After they finally join battle, Juvia follows Gray to the front lines[240] to help Lyon defeat the Empire's troops.[241] Unfortunately, she leaves her open to a potentially lethal attack by the Empire's soldiers, but Meredy turns up in the nick of time to save Juvia, the girl's arrival overjoying the latter.[242] However, she is shocked to witness the advent of the deceased upon the battlefield, thanks to Neinhart's Magic, and is caught by surprise by Keyes, who remarks upon the workings of Historia of the Dead.[243] As the two clash, Juvia remarks upon the despicable nature of the one who is defiling the deceased,[244] but her disgust turns to shock again as she sees the clouds being cleared from the heavens to reveal the night sky, only to be reassured by Meredy that this is an effect of Jellal's Magic. Herded together by Zancrow and Keyes, the two form a Sensory Link to amplify their powers[245] and easily defeat their opponents with a combined technique.[246]
After the strenuous battle, she rests alongside her guildmates, and seconds Gray's proposal to head back to the Guild.[247] As Juvia travels back with Wendy, Carla, Gray and Erza, their party is enveloped by a bright light,[248] and she is teleported along with Erza and Gray to a wasteland. She tries to search for their other companions while Gray cares for their unconscious comrade, the two swapping tasks when Juvia's search bears no fruit.[249] Unable to find Wendy, they walk further until they finally run into Natsu, Happy and Lucy.[250] Their reunion is interrupted when they notice themselves being observed by a gigantic eye levitating above them,[251] but Zera's telepathic message regarding Mavis' situation spurs them on towards their Guild.[252] With the Guild finally in sight, the group rests before preparing to assault the Empire's forces that have taken control of their home.[253]
Despite their reservations, they rush at their enemy[254] and lay into them.[255] Soon reinforced by their allies, they easily gain ground until stopped short by God Serena,[256] whose control over Dragon Slayer Magic astounds Juvia.[257] However, she is heartened when Gildarts arrives to face the formidable foe[258] and crushes him. Encouraged by the display, she advances alongside her guildmates,[259] fighting alongside Natsu, Gray, Lucy and Happy. Suddenly, they soon notice the temperature of the area dropping drastically and are immediately frozen solid by Invel, with Gray being the only Mage to escape their fate.[260] Before long, Juvia and the others are unfrozen by Natsu; Juvia then watches as a giant Brandish arrives and snatches away him, Lucy and Happy. She calls out to a distracted Gray, who yells for Brandish to come back, but she is too late, as Invel casts his Ice Lock on the two of them, which seals their minds and makes them Invel's puppets. Per his order, Juvia and Gray are ordered to fight to the death, however, Juvia thinks to herself that while she still has some rational thought, she would rather kill herself than hurt Gray.[261]
Juvia and Gray then reluctantly battle each other, with Juvia ultimately winding up on the losing end. As they fight, she thinks to herself that suicide is the only way to stop herself from hurting Gray; finding resolve to do the deed, Juvia tells a scoffing Invel that her feelings cannot be imprisoned by Ice Lock, and after saying goodbye to Gray, Juvia happily impales herself, but finds that Gray has done the same thing to himself so as to stop her being hurt. Hearing Gray's reasoning, Juvia expresses joy before collapsing, but uses the Water-Make: Blood she learned in secret to perform a blood transfusion on the dying Gray, where she informs him via the blood flowing into his body that it was learned in the event he was in catastrophe. Falling victim to her blood loss, Juvia tells Gray that she will live on inside him, as well as not to be sad, as her life will always belong to him.[262]
Juvia, thanks to Carla's precognition, is found in time by Wendy and is brought back from the brink of death. Upon waking up, she thanks Wendy and Carla and swoons over Gray before realizing that he isn't there with them, prompting her to ask them if he is safe, which they cannot answer.[263] In spite of still being heavily wounded, Juvia tries to get up and search for Gray despite Wendy's protests, but claims that she must because his emotional state is quickly deteriorating.[264] On their way to Gray's location, Juvia and Wendy are caught in the light of Makarov's last Fairy Law, prompting them to curiously look around.[265]
The group soon arrives at Gray and Natsu's location, where Gray faints upon seeing Juvia alive; after catching him, Juvia does the same.[266] Juvia is then picked up by Carla and is about to be brought to safety (along with Happy and Lucy with Gray and Natsu, respectively), but their retreat is blocked by an explosion caused by the arriving Irene Belserion.[267] However, thanks to Spriggan 12 Larcade Dragneel's widespread use of Pleasure affecting Irene, but not the rest of those present, Juvia is able to be safely taken away.[268] A little later, Juvia and the others are taken to the Porlyusica's location and are examined, with Juvia being determined to make an adequate recovery.[269]
After Universe One is dispelled due to Irene's death, Fiore is restored to its original shape and Juvia is among the many who are transported to the reconstructed Magnolia. However, she remains unconscious and has to be carted around by Evergreen.[270]
