The Royal City (王都 Ōto) is the capital of Earth Land's parallel world, Edolas.

The Royal City is a huge and impressive city. It is built on a circular plane, with the royal palace located in the center, decorated with an emblem of the country.[1] The main tower, almost reaches the level where the flying islands are floating.[2]
The area around the palace is divided into zones, each of which is fortified by a wall and positioned slightly above the previous one, forming a spiral structure around the palace. In each zone, there are numerous towers of different inconsistent sizes. Most of them are located directly at the palace itself.[3]
A golden gate leads to the city and allows you to access all external zones.[4] The city itself is more like an amusement park than a regular city. Everywhere, there are varieties of Magic powered by Lacrima. Even mundane things such as plaques with the names of streets or lights are powered by Magic.[5]
The palace is located near E-Land, an amusement park designed for the city's residents. There is a variety of entertainment such as traditional carousels, train rides, and the Monster Academy. Everything in it can be controlled by the Command Tact, which is in the possession of the Captain of the 3rd Magic War Division, Hughes.[6]
The city was in ruins when it was destroyed by the Demon Lord Dragneel and his servants Redfox and Marvell.[7] After the Magic was sucked out of Edolas by the Reverse Anima, Prince Jellal took his place as the new King. He recommended the rebuilding of the city, sentenced to exile the previous King, Faust, and allowed the resettlement of Fairy Tail, the once Dark Guild, in the Royal City.[8] After 9 years, the Royal City has been fully rebuilt and has discovered an alternate power source from Magic such as steam power, and is currently developing cars.[9]

The Royal City is located in the eastern part of Edolas, near Traia City.[10]
