Natsu vs. Zeref is the 464th chapter of Hiro Mashima's Fairy Tail.

Zeref's army and Happy back away from the battlefield as the battle between Natsu and Zeref begins, the Dragon Slayer able to evenly trade blows with the Black Mage due to the last vestiges of Igneel's power in the former's body. Realizing that Natsu might actually be able to kill him, Zeref silently thanks his benefactors who allowed this day to dawn as Natsu moves in for the finishing blow.

Summary

As Natsu and Zeref prepare for their showdown, Alvarez Empire's troops begin to wonder why their enemy refers to their emperor as "Zeref," only to be silenced by Invel, who explains that this is their emperor's true identity. At that moment, Natsu asks Happy to retreat some distance while Spriggan commands his soldiers to do the same, earning a protest from his General, who believes that Natsu is too worthless to face the emperor. But Invel's objections are for nought and he gives the order to fall back while their leader defeats the enemy.

Natsu unleashes the last of Igneel's power

With the arena to themselves, Natsu reaffirms his Guild's resolve to not hand over Fairy Heart to Zeref, but is told that the current situation is a result of Natsu's own failure to kill Zeref. Refusing to show interest in words that mean nothing to him, the Dragon Slayer finishes unveiling the dragon tattoo present on his right arm and immediately begins his attack. The two Mages seem evenly matched as their incredibly swift fight proceeds. Halting their exchange midway, Zeref marvels at the enhancement of Natsu's abilities after he unleashed the power contained in his right arm, the latter's response explaining that it is the last remnant of Igneel's own power. Astounded to hear that Natsu is utilizing the power of the dead Fire Dragon King, Zeref hopes that it might be enough to kill an immortal. When Natsu finally enters his Fire Dragon King Mode to try and end the battle as quickly as possible, the cursed man sincerely thanks Anna, Layla, Mavis, Igneel and Natsu for granting his utmost wish: to finally be able to die.
